Before you shoot any paint at it you need to rough up the surface or use an etching primer. Problem with wire wheels is they polish the metal, and don't leave any teeth for the paint to grab ahold of.

dang, How wheels did you go through,and how long did it take.
I went through atleast 4 on mines and about a day or two w/ a drill.
and do worry about the paint sticking. I should be rough enough. I painted mines and it's still on there for the past 4 years. and still looking good.

i used a wire wheel from lowes for a 4' grinder done it in one day its the was the wire wheel that looked like rope twisted up well worth it:metal:

Like he said, the trick is an angle grinder with a twisted wire cup brush. They run about 14 bucks at Home Depot or Tractor Supply, but I get months of very hard usage out of them. You should be able to do several frames with one no sweat. Remember, twisted wire only.
