It sounds like you didn't take the lock cylinder out first.
First disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the lock cylinder by positioning in "ACC." position and inserting wire in small hole in cylinder face. Push in on wire to depress plunger and continue to turn key counter clockwise until lock cylinder can be removed.
Then remove the metal ignition switch nut .
Pull the ignition switch out from under the dash and remove the wiring connector.

Do exactly as mentioned above....but if you dont have a key for it......like I have had to do on several occasions....you have to cut it out. I took a saw zaw to the back end of the key housing behind the dash and cut it off. Then it fell apart and came out. I am sure there is an easier was without a key but I couldnt figure it out. When doing this you have to replace the cylinder housing also.
Where in Virginia are you from?
Thanks for the help. I think im going to have to cut it off, it wont budge at all. i have a new cylinder and switch so it wont matter anyway. Im in roanoke.
