My local jobber sells Dupont and thats what I want to get. I'm going with 2003 Chevy Indigo blue base, then clear. Also will need some dark sealer to go over the gray epoxy primer. Can anyone suggest an online outfit that might be cheaper than my local jobber, or am I better off going to them in case there are problems. Keep in mind that I am a newbie and this is my first painting expedition. Thanks for the help, Jeff.

i think you'd be alot better off buying local// try going in when they aren't busy explain your situation and they should be happy to walk you thru the steps and products to end up with a pro-like job // the technical assistance is well worth the few dollars saved buying cutrate you're on your own online products

:agree: Couldn't be more right. My local paintshop has saved me no end of heartache and $$$. Pick a time to go there when they're not busy, tell them what you want and they'll be great to deal with.

There are a ton of different products even within a single manufacturer's product line - some work together, some don't. A wrong guess or missing something on the datasheet means either stripping and starting over or paint that doesn't last.

You live in Bremerton so try westbay out. My brother used to work at the one in port orchard and always gets his paint from them. He has a side business doing custom body and paint work. But he also mixes it instead of them.

which epoxy primer did you use? the Dupont DTM 2570 is the dark grey 2/1 direct to metal primer/sealer (epoxy). when you picked out the color it should say on the can which valueshade of sealer to go with-vs 7 is dark grey, vs 1 is white. if you want it to last forever the cheapest i would go is the Dupont 7900 Multi-use clear with a slow hardener for an allover. the Nason 465-00 is great for the price, but i wouldnt count on it for ten years. let me know if you need some help with anything dupont

Thanks guys! Ya, I was going to go with the local Westbay down by Navy yard. They are about the only paint place I know around. I used Southern Polyurethanes 2 part epoxy <X>. I talked to them, and they said pretty much the same thing, sealer to darken it, then base/clear. Now, help me with this: Base coat, clear coat are two different steps right? I will cover the epoxy with sealer, then shoot the base coat, followed by the clear coat right? Just trying to get it all in my head. Like I said, this is my first time painting and the epoxy was way easy. Thanks again, Jeff.
