I went down for the swapmeet a couple weekends ago. What or where are the better places to live around portland.. The wife seemed to like beaverton, hell I liked it.. It had a hooters and a strip club near target and home depot.. We were just curious, if i ever took a guard job down there where would be a good safe as can be place to live? silvertonguedevil 04-17-2006, 04:18 PM It really just depends on the neighborhood. There are nice neighborhoods still left in Portland and ghettos out here in Beaverton. It seems most of the big-dollar homes are on the west side but they're sprouting about everywhere. I've lived on both sides of town and I feel the west side is probably nicer (Beaverton, etc) but I almost prefer the east side for some reason. It's easier to make your way around, not as much traffic, etc. It's just a matter of opinion I suppose. Brad 04-17-2006, 10:56 PM Yep, I would agree with what Greg said. Btw drink2mny, I'm a medic at the Guard base and would love to talk to you if you ever have any questions! (I don't know if you saw my other thread, but made Airman of the Year in Dec!) Screamin_c10, look me up when you get up here. teamradrz1 04-19-2006, 02:14 AM Alright.. I went down for the swapmeet a couple weekends ago. I live in Gresham which is East Portland suburb it pretty much has everything (Hooters 10 min away) except for the traffic and the higher cost of living of the West side. Shaun K 02-26-2007, 02:48 AM New member here in Aloha, OR. Just bought my first 67-72, a 71 LWB Cheyenne in Ochre/White 2 tone. I've wanted one of these trucks in this color combo for years, and the circumstances were finally right last week so I bought one. Hope to get a matching Blazer soon too =). Are there any good local places for parts on these trucks? I could use a new rear bumper and a hidden hitch, along with a million other things... 68w/sbc406 02-26-2007, 10:56 AM there is a place called Dans Clasic Trucks over in SE off of 16th and Morrison. i have gotten some stuff from there, but i would probably stick to board venders, unless you are worried about shipping on big pieces. http://www.s-c-t-p.com/ http://www.christiansclassics.com/ http://www.classicheartbeat.com/ http://www.gmcpauls.com/ http://www.earlyclassic.com/home.aspx Shaun K 02-26-2007, 01:27 PM there is a place called Dans Clasic Trucks over in SE off of 16th and Morrison. i have gotten some stuff from there, but i would probably stick to board venders, unless you are worried about shipping on big pieces. http://www.s-c-t-p.com/ http://www.christiansclassics.com/ http://www.classicheartbeat.com/ http://www.gmcpauls.com/ http://www.earlyclassic.com/home.aspx Thanks, I'll check out Dan's soon to see what they have. I will be buying from vendors of course, but freight on big stuff like bumpers might be a little too much. I've spent alot of time on the ECE site, I hope to buy one of their suspension kits soon. How difficult is the spindle swap? 68w/sbc406 02-26-2007, 07:31 PM How difficult is the spindle swap? its one of my next projects. are you going form drum to disc or just a drop spindle edit i see you have a 71 so its just a drop spindle. shouldn't be anymore than poppin off ball joints and poppin them back in (unless you are replacing them) have you already bought your spindles? there is a place called Charley's Drop Shop on NE 33rd. they have lowered control arms, drop spindles bags, springs, sway bars, c notches, and they also do custom work. I would like to change out the balljoints, tie rods, and maybe wheel bearings at the same time since I'm in there. This truck is new to me and the seller doesn't answer my calls after I bought it, so I want to have a baseline on what's been done. I should probably run through the brakes at the same time too. I want to do approximately a 4/6 drop, so I should c-notch the rear to make the ride livable. I was going to look for a local place to do the notch, so I guess I should check out Charley's since I haven't bought anything yet. Thanks again Brad 02-26-2007, 11:52 PM I highly recommend Charley if you need things done for you. If you haven't checked out my thread, I recommend you go through it: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=181633 I have a 4-1/2x5" drop on my truck and you can see how it sits. I shaved the bump stops on the rear so that the axle hits them just before it hits the frame and I've never had a problem with the axle bottoming out. You'll need to go with 2" drop spindles and 2" drop springs to get a 4" drop. I've had Summit brand spindles and I've had 0 problems since I installed them about 5 years ago. I've heard Charley's drop arms are good too, it's just a psychological thing with me to have all that welded steel on my control arms so that's why I prefer drop spindles. Btw, welcome. You won't find a better group of guys! dan04103 02-27-2007, 04:34 AM Oregon City here. Got a 71 Cheyenne 3/4 ton 4x4. Nice to hear there's a shop or two around here if I need it. Good to know. You won't find a better group of guys! Thanks for the welcome, I'm glad I found this site. This is my first older car/truck project since high school ~15 years ago so I'm going to need as much info and advice as possible. Sounds like Charley's does good work and they've been around for a while. I'll check them out when the weather gets nicer. Are they open on weekends at all? Getting up there on a weekday is kinda tough when you live out on the west side. I'll probably get the whole kit from ECE with 2.5" spindles, 1" springs, and 6" rear drop. I should be able to install all that at home, and have someone notch the frame and weld the new shock brackets on. Read your thread last night, looks like quite a project. Did you take it with you to AZ? Looking at your ride height, I think I'll want to go a little lower in the rear since it's a longbed, but I have to make the 17" wheels fit without rubbing, so it might take some trial and error. Here's a link to some pics of my truck: http://gallery.kasperowicz.com/c10 68w/sbc406 02-27-2007, 11:04 PM i know that when i was looking at rear bags, Charley was going to order the kit from ECE. thats nice for me since shipping to an apartment sucks. bcanini 02-28-2007, 08:06 AM Welcome!! What size wheels are you running front and rear? I'm trying to decide on size and width for the Torq Thrusts I plan on ordering soon. Shaun, Thanks for the compliment!! I love it too. I purchased it from the PO the way it sits, except I put a buddy bucket seat in it. wheels look to be 15"x 12" best I could measure the width they were real close to 12" wide 0A 15'dia ( I don't know if I thats the measurement you wanted) I'm runnin Dunlop Gt Qualifiers fr=265 50 r15 r=235 50 r15 I've looked for these rims and haven't found em exact anywhere, they're very close to the torq thrust originals (309 series) but those have a line from the cast going down the center of the spoke (mine don't) also the way the lips are configured different also. a torq thrust cap will work with em soo... really I haven't figured out exactly what make they are. I know these are about 15-20 yrs old so some casting changes could have occured. Friend of mine owns a tire and rim shop and said these style wheels were made by a few maufacturers back in the day. Let me know if you need anything else I'll be glad to measure it for ya. A friend of mine runs a truck accessory shop here in Aloha...he mostly does lift kits and 4x4 stuff, but he's done a couple of c-notches in the past so I might just have him do my truck. I'll talk with the guys at Charley's before I make any decisions though. |
