I travel quite a bit.....to say the least.
Problem is, I log on to web sites and see ads for places like adultfriendfinder showing girls avalible in places I no longer am.
Not that I care but this kind of tracking alarms me.
How do you remove the unique number your pc sends out every time you go online?

Clean out your cookies will help. That is what most of the places are using to track that info. You may have to redo some passwords afterwords to be remember at sites you want to be remember at (like here), but it'll stop a lot of that.
You may also need to run an scan to see if you have to see if you have had any spam ware added to your machine.

Thanks Palf70Step,
I clean my cookies after every trip on line...and my history and the temp folder.
Spybot (thanks Shifty) always finds a firewall attack and a Norton turn-off attack after I log off.

If your cleaning out your temp and cookies with the IE function, then I don't think it clears all cookies out. I've been running IE7 for a while now, but for some reason I remember that I went in manually and cleaned out my Temp and cookies because IE6 wouldn't clear them all out.

Thanks Bill,
You could be right that all cookies are not going away. Will check later
I remember a few years back the uproar over Intel putting a unique number on every chip for the consumer market.
I guess the question on how to modify or erase this number is better asked on a computer board......bad as I hate them.

The Intel thing gave the option to be turned off and is no longer present. I think it was the Pentium II chips that had this feature. Maybe PIII.
You can't easily spoof your IP address, which identifies where you are located. To do this, you need to use a web proxy while surfing.

PS - if you read the thread I just typed in this forum about "spyware tools and cleanup), the SpyGuard software and IE-Spyad together will probably block sites from seeing you. It kills advertising cookies before they get to you amongst other things. I would highly suggest reading that thread.
