Here are a few more pics taken with my camera. The paint on this thing is phenomenal. It is too bad it ended up costing WAY more than the original agreement, but I'd say you still got your money's worth.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/Truck2.jpg

Here is a couple pics taken to show the quality of this paint job. Note that the truck is still 'dirty' in all these pics- there was buffing compound splattered everywhere, and dust galore!

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/Reflection2.jpg

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/Reflection1.jpg

This thing is so extremely LOW! I love the stance! :metal:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/LOW.jpg

I also don't think the black strips look bad at all. Hard to tell if they look better than polished, but the do look good.

Loading it up on the trailer for the long journey home

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/Loading.jpg

Here I am helping strap it down. I also had to be the one to crank the truck onto the trailer with the come along. Now I know why he asked me to come with him!

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/StrapDown.jpg

This was a familiar sight throughout the trip LOL!

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/bigD76/68%20short%20step/Gas.jpg

Okay, so my hummer wasn't the best on gas, but it sure towed the trailer for 9 hours without any problems.

ChevyChad
05-12-2008, 09:49 PM
The Vette is going under the knife next year some time. I already got parts waiting. It is going to be a bored/ stroked L92 (427 ci) with a T56 trans  Then it will be painted black and some sidepipes, and of coarse some wheels & tires. The bike belongs to a guy here in Tulsa. Not mine ;) I digress tho... That 68 truck has got me wanting something like that too DROOL!!!

ok after a deal was made with the actual owner the shop carlos operates out of, i was able to make a deal and get my truck painted and back.......CARLOS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BODYWORK OR PAINT OF THIS TRUCK.

REPEAT::::CARLOS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BODYWORK OR PAINT OF THIS TRUCK.

cappel restoration in dickinson TX did the paint and body... here are a few sneak peaks at the truck.. better pics are on the way.

Wow thats pretty amazing Carlos had nothing to do with it when I saw him and his guys working on the truck numerous times...I actually saw him buffing it on Thursday when I was there... You know it is a shame someone talks **** for no reason....Your truck you called ready for paint was no where near ready for paint...I mean maybe high school paint shop. Facts are every person who worked on that truck works for Carlos...

carlos rents out half of a shop from mr.capple, he used ricks (mr.capple) guys to do all the work, with the understanding (between calos and rick) that i was paying ricks prices (to the tune of about 70$ hr)...all of this came to my knowledge when carlos gave me a date to meet him in dallas, and never showed....thats why i had rick fully take over the job....as far as talkin ****, ive told my story and i have plenty of first person witnesses, have him post his side...O wait he's banned for screwing one to many people, just on this board..no-body who worked on that truck works for carlos, you know how i know, CAUSE I DIDNT PAY HIM. in addition to that ill gladly post a email i received from him awhile ago saying he's useing ricks guys. and never did he mention the cost involved with that.... so keep on sticking up for that loser, cause you're wasting your time.... matter of fact he was'nt anywhere to be seen when i picked up the truck either, and those arnt his men working on it in the pics either..

funny you say that, cause another guy came in all mad at carlos. saying he's been callin him all week, and now he stopped by to find him...and i was sitting in the office when he asked rick where he was, when rick said he isnt here.....now if there is a secret office somewhere else, i guess he might of been hideing out there, but other then that i was in the shop, out back of the shop, in the lobby and in the office...so no he wasnt there, and i didnt see you either so how would you know????

if hes such a good friend, then perhaps you can get him to make good on all the deals he hasn't, and make right all the ones he has screwed on this site. He was banned after numerous attempts to find out his side, after he himself telling staff here he would make good on things and never doing so to our knowledge.
If you wish to defend him, perhaps you should go review the bad deals forum first, as there is a line of folks who are not so happy.

Now, with that said, this is a build thread and not the review area, so please do not hijack any further.

First off this isnt a build thread it is a trash my buddy thread in the last few pages...The truck wasnt what is was bid on being...I was there numerous times when Carlos asked him to buy new sheetmetal to speed the process up. Just cause Don says something deosnt mean it is gospel. He does have the other folks cowls and they are getting finished and as of last night he mentioned finishing them up and sending them there stuff at no charge. Carlos moved shop and is trying to get everything going again. Everyone has hard times here and there, so everyone needs to lighten up...As for a moderator you can ban me doesnt matter.. My truck will be done by Autorama and will win in class no problem...I hope we can finish it for Good Guys time permitting.....You can come see a first place done exclusively by Carlos Bernal....Im done with Don and this piece of **** thread!

Everyone has bad times. It's how they choose to handle those bad times that determine what their character is. Some people do it the right way, some do it the wrong way. Carlos may be a great guy, but he chose to handle this the wrong way. Hopefully in the future, he will do it differently. With that being said, it's probably time for everyone to move on......

Sounds like a tough ordeal to have been through, but at the end, it's looks like it's going to be a truly sweet ride.

Congratulations on that, and I for one, am looking forward to more updates & the completion of the build.

Also: to 68 Short Step: Sorry if I appear to to have maybe "stepped on" your Board name, by choosing the one I have. When I signed up here a couple years or so ago, I just typed that in as a possibility, it was available, and that's what I got. It wasn't 'til later, after I'd read a lot of the posts, that I realized mine was so close to what you use as your name. No harm intended. Maybe some day we'll meet & I'll buy you a brewski.

you were asked to stop and did not.. as well as now cussing, trolling and attempting to create a pissing match. Please review the site rules before coming back. They are posted at the top of every forum area of this site.

For the record, my post has nothing to do with Don or his gospel.. you can ask him yourself as he n I rarely see eye to eye. Not that you deserve an explanation on my side.. but if you actually read the review forum and not just the one post, you would see Carlos was suspended from here BEFORE any of the issues with he and Don came to light.

Thank you and have a nice week... back on topic or the build thread goes buh bye

well i can sympathize with those involved (both sides) i had a similar ordeal with the trans. shop that did my tranny. it was recommended by people i knew & when it was all said & done i felt pretty bad about the whole situation: client (me) not happy, shop not happy, & people that recommended me felt bad, although they still use them & i beleive have not had any issues. i completly agree with hart-rod! anyways everyone can move on & now enjoy the re-bulding of what appears to be a great looking ride that all will be proud of. keep us posted on the progress!!! again great truck (even for a step side.... lol)

They look like the 'Street Scene' brand you see in magazines & on-line. Is that how they shipped or did you get them covered on your end?

not to much progress here.....
got the matching dark grey dash pad installed, the polished machined aluminum radio opening, and the rear tail lights installed.....
im working on the A/C heat control face plate....the classic auto air one was small and cheap looking....so a new one that'll fit the opening is being made.....here is a sneak peak at it getting modeled.

If you would bring that thing to the Midwest All Truck Nationals, in Kansas City next month, I would pay your entry fee into the show. I have been trying all Summer to get to Tulsa to see it and have not been able to get free. Come see us at the show.
