I'm in the process of getting a newly purchased gauge cluster working in place of the old standard cluster with idiot lights. The battery gauge won't work with the wiring I've done and I'm stumped. I put a new gauge in line to make sure it wasn't a bad gauge. The new one didn't work either. The red 12G line running from the alternator to the voltage regulator to the post on the fender next to the battery has an in-line fuse then goes to the "+" side of the gauge, with another fused line coming off of the "-" side of the gauge and to the "+" side of the battery. When I attempt to start the truck the fuse blows and everything is dead. When I take the gauge out of line and hook the red 12G line from the voltage regulator back to the battery the truck fires right up and runs great! I guess the gauge should go in-line someplace else?!
