I am about to buy a 1990 Chevy 1500 pickup, with the paint pealing off. I was told that there was a recall on the paint jobs in the early 90's and the truck was repainted about 1996 by the Chevrolet dealer.
The paint is pealing off again.
My question is there anything I can do to keep a new paint job on. Or will the body have to be taken down to the metal and reprimed? Or should I not buy it.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Not sure about the 90's, but my dad has a 85 GMC Conversion van that was painted blue. The problem was with the primer. We had to strip the van down to metal and re-primer it. I would guess that you will run into the same issue.

Yup 93 had the same problem with the blue. Mine is peeling on the side that was not repainted after a neighbor decided to decorate it. I most likely will have to be taken down to the bare metal for it not to do it again.
