I had a small sliver of wood pierce my 1996 Chevy Tahoe 4wd 350 oil filter. The oil leaked out without my knowledge why I was driving. The engine died and when I looked underneath the rig, oil was spraying out of the oil filter.

I took it home, replaced the oil and filter and tried to start it up. I can hear the fuel pump come on, but it won't start. I poured gas down the TBI unit and it will run fine, but as soon as I stop the gas it dies.

I heard there is a fail safe low oil fuel shutoff wire that burns up when the oil gets low. Can anyone tell me if that is true? Any suggestions on why I'm not getting fuel to the TBI unit? Thanks for any help, Mike

there is no such thing there is a low oil pressure switch that would kill power to the pump while the engine is running if oil pressure dropped low enough however it isnt going to keep the pump from coming on when you turn the key on for a couple of seconds if it isnt running might check for power at the pump as the pump may be bad or check the fuel pump relay.

have you verified the fuel pump is running when you turn the key on? could be the relay, a bad ground near the fuel tank, bad connection on top of the tank, etc..

there is a oil pressure sender that is on the block on the drivers side of the dist. That will also supply power to the fuel pump once the engine makes oil pressure; but upon start up it relies on the relay.
