Hey guys, I just purchased a 1949 GMC pickup. It's on it's way here as we speak from Kansas. Def excited and can't wait for it to get here.

I'm a mechanical engineering major at Rutgers University in NJ. I have built up some fast mustangs, a couple lifted jeeps, a couple civics and been working on cars since I was 14. And kinda thought it'd be nice to build something a little slower and a little classier. I have been saving up since the beginnging of this school year to buy a new project as I had sold my last jeep.

I was driving a family 99 explorer and one day travelled home to visit my father to pick up some paper work at his work on the new jersey parkway. I parked behind the building and walked inside. One\ the way out the back door, heard an enormous crash. Some guy fell asleep driving on the parkway, went through a drainage ditch and hit the explorer so hard it through it sidewise into a camry, haha, my dad's camry, totally both cars in about 2 mins, but good note, if my father hadn't asked me inside I may have been in the truck. So I thought if that wasn't a sign to pick up a project, I didn't know what was.

My roommate just purchased a nissan 350z and sold me his 87 mazda b2000 pickup to get around and as the daily driver, and within a week I purchased the truck. Definately looking forward to working on here and posting more for your guys insight.

hey any chance you guys know of a site, that would have factory specs on it? bolt pattern? wheel base? bed lenght? track width? stock tire size? any and all things you'd find in any normal owners manual

Welcome to the board from West Tennessee. Hope you enjoy your trip in to the world of old truck rebuilds. Takes a little more effort to find the parts but the results are well worth it.

no help to me, sorry, I thought I had mentioned it, but I picked up a 1949, little older than 1973, so don't think that'll do me any good. Thanks anyway though, anybody have any other suggestions?
