My ashtray would not stay shut because of the missing springs. So I got one off of e-bay. But the one I got off e-bay has a wire coming off of it with a bulb on the end. My old ashtray did not have this. My question is- How does this hook up and to where. I can not understand where the power comes from to turn this light on. Any help??? By the way, this is on my '86 Chevy Truck.

Wire it into any grey colored wire, that's the color for dash lights.

But the end of the wire is mounted to the ash tray and the other end has the bulb on it. I do not know where the bulb is suppose to go or do not see where it would get its power. If you got power to the wire it looks like it would short out because of the end being mounted to the ashtray. If I have too I will take a picture.

I think the light is for the heater control assembly and the wire going to the ash tray is like a little piece of fiber optic cable that carries the light to the ash tray.

The wire should go to the instrument cluster at the top left corner looking at it from the back. It is a fiber optic cable.
