Just got off the phone with my brother, he is currently passing through through the mighty state of Virginia. He was telling me about these 3 crosses out in the a field, apparently he has seen lots of them. There is 1 - yellow one, flanked on either side by a white one. What do these symbolize? Thanks for any help, we just don't have these up here in Canada.

Do you read the bible? The middle cross symbolizes the cross Jesus was crucified on. The yellow could be a substitute for gold.

Hope this doesn't turn into a religious thread and get closed.

I kinda wondered if it wasn't something to do with the military, as he said that there where lots of them up and down the interstate and many are very tall. Curious minds just need to know.

I don't know if it has anything to do with military or not. I haven't seen any around here painted that way. Lots of folks have the three crosses in their yards. The middle one is usually bigger and further in front of the two side ones.

I hope I didn't sound like a smart ellick in my first post. I didn't mean to come across that way.

It's becom a tradition to put up a cross at accident sites where some one has been killed.I first noticed Hispanic families in Texas memorializing their loved ones this way.It seems to have become more widespread. This may or may not be what your brother has seen.

He said that most of them where about 100 feet away from the road in the middle of nowhere though.

Seems like a pretty legitimate question to me no one seems to have a certain answer. Maybe it is just something that local church members are doing or something. Most of the time if it was the scene of an accident then there is only one cross for each person who died and all the crosses would look similar.

We have them in our neck of the woods too. I think 68stepbed has it right.

Not these the story I heard on them was that some old man was wanting to put them up in every state(or county not sure now)in the USA.They have been around for many years sadly though I believe that he has since passed away.
Hope this clarifies the situation.

The center was the cross that Jesus was crucified on, the other two were for the two criminals that were also crucified when he was.
