I ordered The SBC/ATT Yahoo DSL pakage and recieved it yesterday. The grey Phone cord they supplied is not near long enough to get to my Phone outlet. Tech support said I could use a regular phone cord in place of it. Is this really gonna work without affecting my speed? I figured, like Stereo/electrical wiring...its thicker for a reason..

Am I gonna be ok or do I need to have a longer telephone line cord they supply? We had someone on the board who worked with SBCYahoo.. Cant remember who it was though.

I have SBC and use about a 25' regular phone cord. I dont have a problem with it. I never had a "thicker" cord like you are talking about. Just make sure you use the inline filters on all your phone jacks thoughout the whole house.
P.S. if it does effect the speed I cant tell it. Besides, from your juction box to the phone jack it is very small wires so I dont think it really matters.

I think the only difference between your phone line and the cat 5 cable for your modem is the guage of the wires inside and I think the cat 5 cable has a little nylon string in it for anti stretch I have used a phone cord before for the same reason you are and it seemed to work fine. The computer guys on here can probably tell you way more but it does work.

cable from the wall to the modem can be any phone cable. get it from anywhere. it won't affect the speed.

Thank You each and every one of you. I was freakin. To get a phone jack in my bedroom would mean cuttin and drillin through 70 year old inch thick pine. It was murder to nail into it 20 years ago. Glad I dont have to do it.
