Ive never tried putting a V8 in a 47-55 (first series) so I cant really help with your pedel question. Just wanted to let you know Ive heard that you will run into a problem with the steering (tight fit). Again, I dont know for sure but something worth looking into.

You can use the pedals you have now. i have seen a few that used the original pedals and i have seen some with hanging pedals which is what i have on my 53. but it is an automatic.

I used a truck bellhousing for a V8 and all of the stock linkage and throwout bearing clutch fork and a NEW tremac 5-speed, I used the stock crossmember with the bellhousing mounts, works great! I did have to shorten the driveshaft a bit as the 5 speed is a bit longer
