cant figure this one out. maybe someone else has run into this. i park the truck and put in park, shut motor off and when you restart to attempt to go again, shift lever is stuck in park and wont come out no matter how hard you stomp on brake pedal. 1st time it happened i raced motor a little and it shifted out of park fine. now that dont work. truck can sit for 3-4 hrs and restart and shifted out of park fine. anyone know what this could be?? its like its a vacuum problem, but i would think this late of model, any switches that are tied into the tranny and brakes would be electronic. does anyone know if there is a way to bypass this switch? i know it has to run from brake pedal to shift lever somewhere. advice anyone???

Does setting the parking brake before shifting into park change anything?

I don't know a whole lot about this, but I have a few ideas. From what I know, the transmission has a parking pawl. (SP?) If memory serves me right, this is a metal rod of sort that slips into cogs to prevent the output shaft from moving. When you park on a hill and you go to take it out of park, it is really hard to do because you have allowed the hill to put pressure against this pawl and it will take more force to get it to slip out.
Someone correct me if I am wrong here!
I also believe that there is a safety of some sort that will not allow you to shift out of park until the ignition is in the run position. Perhaps the rod in the steering column is causing your issue?
Again, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

it sound like the solenoid on the steering column under the key switch side if that goes bad it will not allow the truck to come out of park, thats what it sounds like is happenig to me . Hope i have been some help> Danny
p.s. it has a stationary solenoid with a moveable rod going through it if that helps you find it easier!!!!
