lately my gas gauge has been reading 1/4 full when i have it full to the brim (72 cheyenne). i took the sneding unit out of the tank and inspected it and it looked good and i cleaned the connections. it still does the same thing. im going to concentrate on the gauge side now. i see a bunch of wires that feed into a plug. which wire is the one for the gas gauge?

is it stuck on 1/4 tank, or does it go down to E as you get low on go -go juice?

yea, it goes down from 1/4 to E. technically it works. but i would like to get it back to normal.

is the gas gauge ran by the green circuit sheet on the back of the gauge cluster?

yes it is. And I'm going to say that the resistor is bad on the back of the guage.

should i take out the whole gauge cluster? where could i find another resistor?

I would remove it, yes.
As for a resistor, contact byrd... I think he has found a source for new repair pieces. Personally, I've never had a junk yard charge me for something liek that, so that's where I go for things like that.

Dude...check out this website. There is a shunt on the back of the gauges and these guys sell them. It fixed my temp and fuel guage with the same symtoms you stated.

Pull the float off the sender and submerge it in water and look for bubbles to rule out a leak at the seam or it may very well have gas in it.
