I ordered a few parts and will post them as they arrive. I got the first one today. It looks like it will be hours and hours of fun, or days and days of fun. I've never done any major wiring install before. I know a few others on the board have completed theirs, so I have some people to get guidance from.

I also got the gauage harness, but still have to purchase my Auto Meter Speedo and Tacho gauges, Then off to PUTTERS for assembly.

IvelDesigns
10-20-2006, 10:06 PM
what gauges did you get and do they all have the same look to them? from the pic it looks like the numbers on the water gauge are a little bigger.

I'm going to fab a new cluster for my truck out of a glove box door, so i'd be interested in seeing some details to how you go about mounting and wiring the new gauges.

Yeah the numbers look a bit different, but the only other guages had a full sweep.

Putter (another member) has mounted and wired Auto Meter guages for other members. Here is the link to his work.

Now wait a sec I just spent all day molding off your dash and now you want to go back and put in a stock type cluster:crazy:

Just kidding~ Today was spent gapping the passinger side door as I did the drivers side awhile back. Then I dumped about 3/4 of a gallon of filler onto the cab and sanded off 5gal of dust! The cab is looking good and should be in primmer this weekend:metal:

You almost had me. I think my jaw hit the floor. It is hard to believe we have come so far in a short amount of time. I did not think I would ever get the truck done. I guess sometimes it is better to have someone ( Very Experienced Someone) do the work for you. I can't wait to the cab, maybe it will have some seats in it? Maybe?.

I think we are moving down hill now. Thanks for all the hard work Kevin.

Well I did not get as much done this weekend as I wanted. My parents and the in-laws came over Saturday to see all the pics of Europe and have dinner and the In-laws stayed the night. But I did get to take my Father in-laws new C5 Vett for a run up to the lake. Over 120 in 4th and never even tried 5th or 6th:crazy:

Ok well I did get the back of the cab and the door jambs all roughed in as well as both rain gutters and the rear seam of the cab. I still have the front roof lip work to finish up before all metal work on the cab will be done. I put on two heave coats of fill primmer tonight so I will start block sanding it this week and see what else needs attention. Here are a few pics to show that I am not a total slacker:rolleyes:

How did you fill the seam where the roof meets the back of the cab? I have been planning to do this to my truck but I'm not sure how to go about it. Do you have any concerns about cracks forming in that area? Awesome work!

It was fully welded and filed to shape before being skimmed and blocked. I have no concerns of it cracking.

what about those drip rails? it looks like theyre trimmed down as opposed to flat out shaving them like i was thinking of doing to mine.. might still look factory and be somewhat functional as a drip rail? (i like your way) is that what you were going for? looks awesome though for sure!!

Rokcrln
10-24-2006, 07:26 AM
They were 100% removed all the way into the jamb then a 3/8" rod was welded in place changing the opening size of the door ever so slightly to close up the gap a bit. Then the interior of thejamb had another piece of filler welded in to smooth out the jamb. And no this was not the look that I was going for, The owner of the truck designed it and I am just helping bring it about:)

ITS LOOKING GREAT, I can't wait to see it in person. I hope that the parts I ordered will be here for you on Friday. Couple more weeks and maybe the frame, cab, front metal, and bed will all be one. And after 5 yeare I will see the truck as a whole again.

Thanks for the update.

Well I got home about 11:30 last night and the chassie followed me all the way with out falling off:) I hope to have the cab blocked out by Monday so I can drop it on the frame before I take off to SEMA on Tuesday. Then as soon as I get back I will start mocking up all the front sheet metal so we can see what gaps need tweaking and what can stay the way it is. I also have two color samples to try out on a spare fender he sent with me so he can see just what shade he wants.

The chassie is all complete, powder coated, new lines, tank, motor, trany and any other misc. part that could be replaced. Nice Job!

As for SEMA, I'm already looking for some to get me a hook up for next year. I think everyone should go at least once in their life. Maybe we should make plans for a 67-72 Chevy Truck board meeting there next year. Anywaym have fun Kevin,

Yes it is nice not having to clime on a stool so you can streach accross a roof to try and do good work. Not to mention I would guess it saved about 3-6hrs so far in ease of work. Plus if you are comfy you will do better work:)

As for the tip and flip yes I am still waiting for it as well. The proto type is built but I still need to pull my running 2wd apart so I can double check all dimentions before finishing up the plans. I have moved around several vehicals in my shop and yard so this can happen after SEMA. Hey by the way, ya wanta go:lol:

Kevin, you were right. The paint work on the Bronco looks great. I can't wait to see what those yellow samples will look like.

Thats the first time in six years Lemon Drop has had a front end on. I will finally get a look at how the 4/6 drop will look.

I see the difference in the fender you were talking about. I'm curious, is it possible to remove the bracket and attach it to the other fender?

Keep up the good work, have fun in Vegas.

Here are two test samples. The rear is 79 corvette yellow by PPG and the front is SunBurst yellow by dupont. The Dupont covers much better than does the PPG but yellow is always bad about coverage. Clear has not yet been sprayed on and will help bring out the true shade.
Also this is a mock up fender only and no body work was done other than a quick D/A pass.

I like the front color better. The corvette yellow always looked to orange to me for a yellow color. Kevin, a little trick I learned the last time I sprayed yellow and it really made it scream is go over a white base sealer.

abadsvt
11-05-2006, 07:09 PM
I like the yellow one:haha: No seriously i like the lighter yellow because it fits the name of the truck better. I also have seen a yellow with a little gold pearl mixed in and it look beautiful!!! Good job and keep us posted!

When do you have the plans for the cab lift using the motor hoist. I want one pretty soon!!!!!!!!!

Josh

Rokcrln
11-05-2006, 08:02 PM
Yes I should have mentioned it will be going over white sealer. The grey is just what I had today to give it a shot. I also like the front color better and that is the way the owner was heading even before spraying just by looking at it wet.
The cab lift will be very soon, I just got back from SEMA friday night and it is in the plans for the next week or two. I just pulled my bed out from storage so I can put it back together and try the lift on it as well. Here are a few pics from today doing some yard clean up. I also pulled my chassie out of storage so I can get it moving along as well.

Boy you said it. What makes it harder is I wish I had the talent to do the work myself, but then it would not have turned out aswell. Maybe Kevin has an apprentice program. I think that body and paint is the peck of the build, after that I hope it will all be down hill.

I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD CUT OFF ALL OF THE RUST INSIDE THE GUTTER AND CUT OFF THAT LIP THAT COMES UP, OR JUST WELD OVER THE TOP OF IT, KINDA LIKE YOURS AT AN ANGLE?

Well here is a shot of teh fender with clear on it. I did not even take a pic of the rear color as it is way off from what the owner wants. This color is really going to pop once it over white base and then color sanded and polished to a mirror finish!

I also had a chance tonight inbetween clear coats to mock up my bed and try out the cab/bed lift. It worked out great!!! It will balance out real easy for a long bed or short as well as if the gate is on or off. Right now it will only be for a fleet side but I will work on it for a step as well. I should have some time this week to get all the dimentions and build pics ready to head off to the printers and be ready to ship next week:)

Man, I love the Vette yellow, that''s the "if my truck was straight..." color of my dreams.

Now the fun begins. Roll pan does not fit as is due to the lic. plate holder and the lights are also not going to clear due to the rear bed mount as well. Then is the common problem of a rear tank in a pickup and the second to rear mount (masking tape) hitting. So once I get the steps and start on the rear tail gate openers I will start to slice and dice this bed apart and make it all fit:whine:

I am also thinking about welding up the bed so it does not need the bolts to hold it together. I think this will make the paint stage and reassembly alot easier with les chances of damage. And since this bed is electro coated rust should not be a problem. What do you step side guys have to say about this? Good/Bad or what, this is the first step bed I have delt with from this point of being brand new.

I will called Mar K about the license plate box problem. They said the according to the instructions for the roll pan the rear cross sill has to be modified so the license box will fit.

Note. Kevin they said the instruction for the roll pan should be taped behind a piece of foam inside the roll pan box?

These tail lights are looking like they may be a better option.

"So have any of you guys welded your step side bed together? Pro's or Con's?"

Kevin, I welded the one together in my 48. I really like the way it came out, a very clean look and extremely sturdy. I put a steel floor in it also, which made my decision easier. The only con I see, is if you had an accident to one of the panels, it would be harder to fix. I also welded studs on for the fenders so you don't see any bolts in the bed. Check out this link and you can click on the bed pictures:

Rokcrln
11-15-2006, 09:08 PM
Nice Job! The main reason I am thinking about doing it is not so much to eliminate the bolts but to hold it all together while it is being painted. Jugernot has all SS hardware and he wants it this way for some added contrast to the yellow but I am worried about pulling the whole bed apart, painting everything and then getting it all back together without and damage. Plus it would make it real sturdy and rigid. I hear you on if it got in a wreck but that is what Ins. is for and damage is damage so what ever it takes to fix it is what they need to pay for. I would only stich weld it in a few not to visible areas, I am not trying to smooth it out or anything like that.

Jugernot what are your thoughts?
