The cab is painted and will soon mate up with the frame once again. I was hoping the sun would come out for a bright picture, but this was the best nature could do. I will say that in the sun it took some time for my eyes to adjust so I could look at the paint, ITS REALLY BRIGHT. It will be even brighter after a little color sanding and polishing.

I noticed that when it was sitting in the sun the bugs seemed to gravitate to the color. Or maybe they were just more noticable on the yellow paint.

I've noticed that on my Yellow S-10 as well. Definitely no where near the same shade of yellow, but there must be something the bugs like about it.

Wow that looks awsome nice and shiney. That looks like the same yellow that is on my truck but probably no where near the quality. Mine is only a single stage and is starting to fade.

Who is going to put the truck back together, you are or Jugernot? Are you going to buff the panels off of the truck or on the truck? Have you tried the dry sanding system from 3M with the Hook it II DA sanding disc? If you haven't it you should look in to it. It is pretty trick and fast. You can sand with 1500 dry and then 3000 with an interface pad. Makes it really nice.

Kevin is going to help me put it back together. We will probably sand it after it is together. We will probably do the wet sand method then polish. I'm a little worried about burning through the clear coat.

Rokcrln
04-23-2007, 07:56 AM
Yes I will help a bit with assembly (once he signs a release  ) then it will get sanded and buffed after that. I am thinking that teh sand and buff stage won't be for about 6 months or so as he is almost in the middle of moving.
I might do the 3M system but I will try it out on Low Buck first. I got some great first hade teaching of that system at SEMA last year on the OverHaulin set from the guys. Best part is they gave me a list of all the products that they liked the best for sanding and polishing. The 3M perfect system is ok they said but a few things they switch out for older products they like better. So once I try it on mine I might give it a shot on Lemon Drop!

Epoxy? Do you want to know what Epoxy sealer/etcher we used on the bare metal or the white sealer I just before paint? I will need to check and see just what part # it is, I have to many to remember them all:confused:

Looks great. Other than getting the truck together, I only have to pack up a 2500 sq foot house and move the things to storage near the new house, move things in an existing storage unit to the new storage unit 59 miles away, and lastly prepare for a three week vaction.

All of this has to happen within 25 days, while I still work 40-50 hours a week. I think I wll be a little busy.

Thanks again Kevin.

No, she couldn't talk me into that place. I picked the one in the area of the great public schools, close to friends and co workers. But it does have a two car garage and room on both sides of the house park something.

I notice the detail you show in one of the photos of the firewall of what appears to be a bulkhead fitting for an a/c system is that correct? What system are you using? I am considering Vintage Air for my truck and have been told the Gen II system is better than the Sure Fit as you can obtain a cleaner firewall.Did you prefit an evaporator under the dash before paint, I don't see holes for one and assume perhaps bolts were welded on the inside at some earlier point? Clearly, your firewall is as clean as is obtainable so your thoughts on a system will be of great interest. Your project is certainly an inspiration, and look forward to watching future progress.

The same goes for me too, my problem is that I didn't prefit, I'm kinda backwards sometimes. I like the entry point of the a/c lines. Truck looks great, what wheels are you going with?

It is a Vintage Air system and I think the bulk head is also a Vintage unit.

I notice the detail you show in one of the photos of the firewall of what appears to be a bulkhead fitting for an a/c system is that correct? What system are you using? Yes that is the bulk head fitting and the system we mocked it all up with was the Gen II system if I remember right. The lines will run up in the top of the fender untill they get tward the Rad support then they will duck out and hook to the compressor. Yes I did weld a few extra suports and mounting points so their would not be any holes comming thru th efire wall. This was the cleanets way we could come up with for running everything. I like the Gen II kit and wish I had one for my truck but I bought mine about 7yrs ago and they did not offer this kit that I was aware of. So in Low Buck it will come out right thru the fire wall but that is just how it goes. On my 2WD Blazer I am sure I will set it up for a Gen II system. The wiring will come out the same spot on the drivers side;)

hey kevin i hate to ask you a question . that im shure you get asked alot. but do you have any tips on shaving the drip rails... im starting this on my 72 next weekend and would like a few tips..do i need to do this with the doors on? and should i just cut off the drip rails in small sections and tack.? and did yoiu have to pie cut the roof anywhere? any help would be awsome..........i know when you got this project that it was already shaved, but it looks like you done a ton of work to them.........thanks tony

My first tip is don't do it! I spent teh most time on this project just getting things right due to these cabs not being built all teh same even from side to side. It is alot of work to get things just right but if you do then it looks great. It is funny the two things I did not like when I started this project were shaved drip rails and Yellow. I even told Jugernot when I went to look at the truck before taking it on and he just told me that that is what he wanted and he knew it would turn out right. And boy was he right!
Back to your question, yes cut and tack small areas first and you will want yours doors set perfect before you start so you have a good referance point. As far as having to pie cut the roof it will depend on how it all welt together from the factory. The two areas in question will be at the front edge right at the corner were the door, the windshield meet and the "A" post all meet. They normaly are not in alignment and take alot of playing around with to get them to line up right. Good luck.

I'm really sorry that I have not had any updates for Lemon Drop. As Kevin stated we moved to a new house in July. Since that house was built in 1965, no-one has up graded the electrical in the garage. I also had to get rid of the old asbestos heater ducks and replace the 1965 furnace and replace it will a 95% energy efficient one ($$$$$)

But in order to up grade the electrical in the garage I had to up grade the service panel from 100 amps to 200 amps. We put a 60 amp sub panel in the garage and wire it for all the good tools.

Well in order to get all that done as well as I have had to work 50-60 hour work weeks to pay for it all. Any free time I spent with my wife and 3 year old daughter. And well know everyone knows that Christmas is coming, so that meant 60-70 hour work weeks.

So I think sometime in Jan 2008 we will make some progress on Lemon Drop. Here are some pics of the garage before and after. I still have to install the base cabinets and figure out what kind of bench top to put down. There are still three boxes filled with tools that need to be put away and then I will have to figure out where I put all my truck parts.

jugernot
01-17-2008, 06:14 PM
Not a very exciting update, but it is an update. I finally had some free time. So I completed an inventory check on all the parts I have boxed up in my garage. Now everything is numbered and its location is written down on my new inventory sheet. I still have to install the base cabinets in the garage so I can clear some more room in the garage.

Kevin will be coming by sometime in the future to help aligned the front sheet metal and then I will start putting parts on the truck. Stay Tuned…………..

Yes I really like our new place and neighborhood. Living here makes it worth the extra time I have to put in at work. A friend of mine, who is a police officer, where we use to live told me that our old neighborhood has gotten really bad. Some burglaries, auto boost, etc. I'm not a very religious person, but am very thankful to God for helping us with selling our house.

Well I spent about an hour last night reading Sound Deadner Showdown article http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

From the information I learned that Second Skin Damplifier

http://www.secondskinaudio.com/index.php

was the best for my needs. It is comparible to Dynamat Xtreme, and a bit cheaper. So today I gave them a call and placed an order. I will post pictures after the install.

Then I will start with installing the Painless wire harness. Then other parts that I can put inside the cab, ie Vintage Air unit, Steering Column. I also send off my Auto Meter guages to Putter (Eric) for assembly. I just purchased a blazer filler tube and will attempt to copy that Livrat made for Windancer

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?p=2489088&posted=1#post2489088

So, I have a few projects in the works and hopefully have some time to get the ball rolling.

About a year ago I researched Lizard Skin, because I wanted to undercoat my cab with it. I did not purchase their kit, purely because I did not have the extra money to purchase it at that time. I called and spoke to the guy who invented lizard skin, and was impressed with what he had to say.

As far as the the sound deadener I choose to line my cab interior. I looked at all the options listed on that site and choose the best at the best price. From my understanding of the information given on that site, second skin was the best for my needs. It is comparible to Dynamat Xtreme, and a bit cheaper.

Well I made some big progress over the last couple of days. Well at least on the garage. I finally finished putting in the base cabinets and building the top for my work bench. Then I found a place for all of the things I had scattered on the garage floor. I swept the floor and moved Lemon Drop to the middle of the garage. Now I know were all my tools are located and I have the room to work on the truck.

The first two pics show the garage prior to the big clean up. Last three show how it looks today.

Well no more talk, I finally did some work on Lemon Drop. As I requested, it was a nice warm sunny day. Both my wife and daughter were at school today. So I spent the day installing my sound mat. I did the insides of the door and from the underside of the dash to the back of the cab. I left a little room open on the floor at the rear of the cab, because I'm thinking of making a fiberglass speaker, amp encloser.

Next I think I will tackle installing my Painless wire harness. I opened the box and took a big sigh. But I think it will go smoothly.

Looking good! The wiring is a piece of cake. Read the directions 2 or 3 times. Lay everything out, starting with the fuse panel. Just work on one section at a time. Take your time and it will come out well.

I was in the same boat and pretty intimidated at the thought of wiring my truck from scratch. I used the EZ kit and it went just fine....and not even one electrical fire!

When it's over, you'll be asking yourself, "what the hell was the big deal about?"

BTW....your last post with pics....2nd pic. What's that little rectangular box on the fire wall (in the pic it's right under the AC/heater control cut out)?

It is a bracket for the vintage air unit Kevin fabricated it, so there would be no bolts inside the engine bay. If you look at the same photo, a little to the right under the glove box you will see a metal strap, it also is for attaching the vintage air unit. From the mind of a genius (Kevin)

He also came up with the idea of putting the fuse block in the now useless kick panel vent hole. So the wire could come up from behind the fender and inner wheel well.

I used Second Skin Damplifier. It was not precut. It came in sheets that were 12" x 24". Tomorrow I will buy some metal tape and tape over the seems of the sheets, just to clean it up a bit (I know no-one is going to see it, but I will know)

jugernot, Very nice job on install the sound deading material, stuff can be a pain to put on over the trans tunnel, great work look awesome. One recommendation, if you still have any second skin left, i would recommend doing the area where your sub enclosure is going to go, that way you have full sound insulation and it will also help your system sound better in the end. If you already have why not, and also put some inside the sub enclosure after you build it.
That is what im doing when i do mine, easier to do it once then have to take it apart again.
