I helped a buddy hook up DSL and a New Dell 510 with a 20" monitor . In order to fill the screen on the monitor I had to set the Res to 1600x1200 ,
Because both of us are old farts we are used to 800 X600 . Tough to see the desktop icons .
Anyone know of a way to fill the screen at 800 X600 ?

There's an option in Windows display prperties to 'use large icons' and use 'extra large fonts'. You'll want to keep the display at 1600x1200 since that's the optimum resolution.

If he's using Windows XP, tell him to go into the Control Panel, double-click the Display icon (if it's there), click on the Appearance tab, then click on the Effects button. There is a checkbox in there for "Use Large Icons". I suggest putting a checkmark there AND set the second dropdown menu available to "Clear Type" to clean up the fonts on the screen and put a shadow under them to make it easier for him to see.

Yeah, forgot to add a comment about clear type--don't know why Microsoft doesn't set that as default as it's much better than the standard setting.
