View Full Version : i pod battery chevyboy55 05-24-2006, 05:09 PM Has anyone ever changed an i pod battery? My daughters is dead. shifty 05-24-2006, 06:01 PM never done it. their warranty service is great. otherwise, there are several kits, and even a technologically oriented guy like me is not comfy with using any of them. there is a lawsuit or was one against them over dying batteries - you might contact their customer service and see if you're covered! go to apple.com and use their support/warranty link to fill out info and see if you're eligible. This is not the best answer but if you want temp service from said dead ipod buy the secondary battery that just plugs in to the bottom. I got one for those 12hour plane rides. I have a friend that has a dead internal and since were in japan he just uses the secondary plug in unless were in the car then he plugs it in. :banghead: :cuss: TECHNOLOGY 70c10 05-25-2006, 12:48 PM I think it has to go back to Apple to be serviced. 79Silv4x4 05-25-2006, 01:26 PM Google it. http://www.ipodbattery.com/ipod2k4install.htm chevyboy55 05-25-2006, 07:56 PM I checked with Apple & since it is not under warranty they will replace the whole she-bang for $59.00 + $6.95 S&H! (i reckon under warr. would be free) The thing that makes me kinda nervous about doing it myself is hers is a mini & it says you have to soften the glue & pop the end cap off, remove the clips etc...etc.. I'm afraid then it will have a loose end cap & she will be cussing me out every time she uses it & worse yet her WONDERFUL father will be a failure in her eyes. How could I live with that? All kidding aside, Apple says to run a battery update program first & that they will ask for the results of the test before doing anything with it. She comes home from college next weekend & I'll deal with it then. shifty 05-25-2006, 08:50 PM Apple's service is killer. Seriously. I had to send mine in for warranty - went out on monday regular mail, was back and fixed before Friday. They literally fixed it the day it arrived, then next day shipped it back out. You won't be disappointed with the service if they do the work for you. I hate most of their products, but boy, they know how to take care of their customers. N2TRUX 06-07-2006, 07:54 PM Shifty is correct about their service. My daughter accidentally dropped her Ipod mini in a full cup of Coke. It bobbed a couple of times and sank really quick. We snagged it out as it fizzled and died. I emailed them and they sent a shipping box out in two days. That box contained foam packing cut to perfectly fit the mini, a prepaid return shipping label, and three pieces of 3M tape to seal the box. I shipped the drowned mini to them. Under reason for return I put "not working" so I would not have to lie. They shipped me a new unit the next day. I must have received 4-5 email updates telling me every step of the way on what was being done. I got an email checking for satisfaction as well. What did all this cost me? Nothing, zero, zip, nada. Even though it was obvious that the unit had been came to a slow due in a cup of soda pop, they still covered it under warranty. I was so impressed, I bought her a Ipod video. She lets me use the mini even though it is pink...:( chevyboy55 06-07-2006, 08:17 PM I was so impressed, I bought her a Ipod video. She lets me use the mini even though it is pink... Pink? Now that's what I call comfortable with your masculinity.:c2: I went to Apples web site & updated the software. The battery went from lasting 15mins. to 2 hrs now. We will move her back from college this friday:metal: so I can goof with it a little eaiser this way. N2TRUX 06-07-2006, 08:20 PM I was so impressed, I bought her a Ipod video.
