Can anyone tell me what the differences are between a 4x4 power steering setup vs a 2x4? Is the box / mount itself different, or just the pitman arm, hoses, etc?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

Let me add to this question......What's the difference betweene the 67 power steering setup and the 68-72? Brother's catalog doesn't show a 67 specific power steering box & pump for some reason and I need to replace mine or send it in for overhaul.

The difference between 2x4 and 4x4 power steering boxes is the spline shaft the pitman arm attaches to. On the 2x4 the pitman arm slides over the splines and is followed by a nut. On the 4x4, the pitman arm is a clamp style and this clamps to the spline shaft. See pics below. As for the differences between 1967 & 68-72 boxes. It depends on your frame. Early 67 frames are a flat frame with no allowance for the power steering box. Late 67-72 frames do have an allowance for the box. You can install a late model power steering box on the early 67's if you use the 60-66 conversion kit.

On one the pitman arm moves from side to side and the other it moves from front to back. The big lift guys use a 2wd box for crossover steering conversions due to the difference.
