anyone running a muncie 4spd or other manual tranny? what are you guys doing for clutch linkage? I`m going over to my buddies tomorow to bug him about selling me the old truck he has. I`m not sure what yr it is, maybe 51-53? I know it does`nt have wing windows. anyway if I get it, I want to put a 4spd in it for fun. Thanks.

I have a Muncie in my 69 Camaro...does that count????? :cool: I don't see why that won't work in one of these vintage trucks. I know that the one we are working on came with a 3 on the tree. I bet you could rig something to work. What motor you have in it?

I don`t think camaro linkage would work with the stock pedals. I don`t have the truck yet, hopeing to work that out today. Right now it has the original motor but I`ll be doing a V8 swap along with a MII frontend. I`m pretty sure this truck has a manual tranny now but I`m not familyar with these old trucks so I did`nt know if the stock clutck linkage would work. Thanks.

I am not sure how they go together. We sold the motor and tranny out of this truck a long time ago so I can't tell you anything about it. We are going to a auto trans along with a big block....I hope...that's the plan for now. We already have the motor and trans so I hope it fits...lol.

Mine had the stock clutch parts with the saginaw four speed. It worked just fine.

My ole heap now has a Muncie m-20 clutch linkage works fine , is the same linkage that the old beater came with from the factory sporting a three on the tree. Its all good. Larry

The clutch linkage will work as it is BUT you need a Chevy/GMC bellhousing for a V-8 from a 55-60 truck and a front bearing cover on the transmission that is the exact dia. of the hole in the bellhousing. I have had a Saga. B-W, Muncie, and now have a new Tremac and they were all on the same bellhousing.

what do you mean by front bearing cover? I don`t have alot of 4spd experience but I don`t remember a front bearing cover, just the tranny and bellhousing. thanks.

Hmmmm! 1951-1953---------This has original stuff the later stuff may not bolt up..These years may have been enclosed drive shafts etc. May be that solidaxel is correct 55 and later would be better to bolt a muncie to...............my .02%

Yes but I`m planning to swap out the stock stuff. Mustang II front suspension, later model rearend and driveshaft,ect. I`m planning to run a mild 327 but i want to run a muncie 4spd but I don`t know if the stock linkage will work or if I need to buy a kit or just make it myself. I don`t know much about these old trucks but I`m learning as I go. My buddy had a 2nd series 55 with a 327 and T10 and he reused the stock linkage. Do the earlier trucks have similar linkage? Thanks.

The front bearing cover on the 4-speed is where the throw out bearing rides and has 4 bolts holding it to the transmission. This must be the same size as opening in the bellhousing, if not there are places to find them. Do you have linkage now with the truck? Do you have a bellhousing from a 55 or later truck?

The truck still has the original motor and tranny in it. It`s all there as far as I can tell. I`m still trying to get in touch with my friend to talk to him about the truck. I don`t have any parts for the truck yet and I might not even go with a 4spd if I end up with it, I just wanted to know what would be needed. I would probably want to run a scattershield since I plan to do a little racing once and a while plus alot of running through the gears on the street.

Not sure about the linkage ,but would make a swag that it will be close to fitting the modifications you are talking about...........

If you use a scatterdhield you will be removing the rear crossmember and adding one under the center of the transmission, will work better! Go for it you will have a lot of fun with it, they are very basic trucks and parts are available.

Thanks guys. I`m hopeing to get the truck soon. My friend is in his mid 70`s and can`t get around to well so I know he`s not going to do anything with it. We live in different towns so it`s hard to get over there and catch him but I`m going to keep trying. I just want a neat old truck to cruise around with my wife and little girl.
