Anyone else have a hard time getting gas into the tank with out the pump clicking off? I didn’t have a problem in WA or OR but they didn’t have those stupid evaporator boots on their pumps. What do you guys do?

Pump slower is all you can do, these old trucks have small filler pipes I have this problem with both of mine and it's anoying esspecially in the morning when I am gassing up before work and it makes me slow down.

Depending on where the gas gauge is, I usually let off at a certain point and let it pump as slow as possible. I try to listen for the sound of gas coming up the tube, but with ambient noises, that isn't always possible. I usually decide how many gallons I'm going to stop at no matter what. I don't like gas running down my paint!

We have the evaporator collector boots here in PA and the pump clicks off all the time. I just pull the nozzel out so the boot is not pressed up against the filler neck opening. I listen carefully for the sound of the of the gas going into the filler neck to change. As the tank become full, you can here the neck filling with gas as the sound becomes higher pitched. That, my freind, is how I have successfully prevented the pump from knocking off prematurely. You can see the fumes get thicker when the tank becomes fuller too. I thought I was the only one with this problem as my filler neck is slightly kinked.

Tell me about the gas running down the paint. I've done that half a dozen times before my new fangled technique. The woodgrain decal on the molding was destroyed before I bought the truck. I have replaced it and worry that I will destroy this peice of trim too.

Nope, ya gotta do it by hand. You need to go much slower than the lowest setting or you'll standing in a gas puddle.

Well call me :crazy: but I only stick the nozel in the tube 1" and run it wide
open till about $20, then I pump it slow the rest of the way full :lol:

The tubes are actually bigger. When they first came out with lead free cars an old lead gas nozzle was too big too go in. You can do like LUV and just shove it in but on those times when that didn't work I have found that if you put the nozzle at the top of the blazer tube and not the bottom it will work fine. but I would still listen for the sound

I also run the nossle at the top of the filler tube(or atleast the gas guy does)

yea i'm in CA and i just don't put it in alll the way when i pump. I also pump as slow to med. not fast. I never get a full tank, or don't try to. I dont want that sh!t over flowing all over if i just wait for it to click off

i pull the stupid rubber on the nozzle back as far as it goes and dont have a problem with slow filling and like previously stated i dont put the tube all the way in either , seems to work ok
