Thank's guy's Think what I'm going to do is take the ones I got with me, run over to my supplier after I get to the city and drop off my truck and trailer at the fabricators. Try the Kirkey and the RCI seats, and if I don't use the ones I have bring them home and take them back to where I got them in town.

I'm sure I can't complicate it any more than I have all ready, had my fill of this seat ordeal.:(

And the winner is Kirkey Pro drag seats, truck is there, measurements taken will be done by the end of next week. If I remember I'll get some pics of the pro street 71 Chev short box he's doing for a guy, full cert cage, back half 4-link, front suspension all done up, 3" chop. Motor's going to be set back, fabbed fire wall and floor, all discs fab 9" rear end, he said the back was all done once before and the guy changed his mind and it had to be again. LOL wish I had that budget. It's like Djracers truck taken one more level.

Anybody get some racing in?

No racing...but I did go visit my truck. Forgot the camera. Should have the primmer shot tomorrow. I ordered the QA1 front shocks..so we will see how they work. It was 117 degrees again today....just too hot to race(non points)

I went racing tonite , if you can call it that . 104 air temp , 137 track temp according to the hand held temp gage , i was spinning off the line , that hasn't been a problem before , had the tire pressure down to 9lbs , plus the truck wouldn't cool down below 180 deg. The dragster dudes said the air was registering at 6400 ft. Anyway very small turnout , no one else in my bracket , that 68 is so predictable , ran a 66 on a 65 dial in , last week it was running 49 on a 49 dial in . I don't think i'd bother going to the track when it's that hot , i was just curious how it would react .
Later ........................................... 409 :)

Suppose to be done at the end of the week, and going to get it Sat. Wouldn't surprise me if it didn't get done the way things have been going, even my belts have a bad cam lock buckle, and on back order now.

On another note, I got charged $70 re-stocking fee on the first crappy seats I ordered in. Even after I asked the little parts geek before I ordered and he said no charge if I had to bring them back, the butt-munch owner took $70!

What's the deal with the 4 bars out the back of the cab? I have never seen that before and you show 2 trucks like that!

The first truck you show needs allot of bars to replace the strength taken out with the firewall!

No pics of mine till it's done;) The first one, Not sure what they are putting in for a firewall I think steel just shaped for the set back motor. Didn't ask about the extra bars, It has serious cage so far, lot's of extra braces inside also. Could it be possible that it's that way to do away with the funny car cage but still tech for 8's? It was 1/2 done then taken to this guy, and now being changed, not sure what stays and goes.

One thing that I don't like on mine is my seat sits too far forward now, I have to try and move the pedals forward for more leg room. He made my back hoop a bit different as a trade off. It has 2 down bars from the top that tie to the frame, and to the back bars, with it like this the NHRA inspector allowed the side bars to attach with plates to the floor and not tie into the frame. Also let me keep my slider and make room for the back bars to travel through the corners. But bad side, head rest hits on the bar and has to be moved forward, not good when your 6'1" 250lbs.:o

My truck is camera shy when it's stripped down:lol: I was going to take a few pics on Sunday, but got a little off track and didn't get around to it. I'll for sure post some when I pick it up.

I'd be glad to, if I can figure out how to do it. I've been meaning to post some pics of my truck on the picture forum, but haven't quite figured out how. Not too computer-literate!
Anyways, those brackets are really nothing more than 1/4" steel turned to make a 90* bend. All together, they're about 5" long, bent in a 90* at about 2 1/2". I drilled a hole in each flat, bolted the bracket to the frame, then attached the upper mount of the shock through the other hole. Nothing too fancy. If I can figure this picture thing out, I will get some pics up.
Hope this helps.

NICE truck, please feel free to post up more, I like it! How about some of the mill and inside, I think a couple of bars coming out the back window would look killer.;)

Got mine back, but now I'm sick and moving a bit slow. I got alot of work to do if I'm racing this weekend. I'll get some pics up of the roll bar as soon as I can. Would like to get the new carpet in first.

nxtruck
08-08-2006, 01:21 PM
Thanks for the compliments! As soon as I can get my hands on a camera I'll get some more shots of it. It does have a cage in it. If you'll look at the pic that shows the rear of the truck, you can see one of the rear bars coming out below the top of front bed panel. It has a 10-pt 'moly cage with funny car bars around the driver. I didn't really want the funny car bars in it, but I did want it to pass a cert. and didn't want bars coming out of the top of the cab. The inspector said that the only way he would pass it with the back bars coming out of the cab so low would be to add the funny car bars for additional strength.
Definitely post some pics of yours when you can. I always like to see what other guys are doing with their dragtrucks!

71Dragtruck
08-08-2006, 02:09 PM
I see it now, my bad. I brought mine through the corner windows of my slider. At first I didn't like the look of bars out the back, but now if they are done right I don't mind the look, let's people know your serious, ones that don't know better should be punished by law.

cwilli84
08-08-2006, 02:31 PM
What about having the rear cage bars exit the cab just below the top bed height some how. that way they are unnoticed when you're on the street.

71Dragtruck
08-08-2006, 03:18 PM
There are certain specs, needed to pass inspection and be NHRA accepted, and that they won't allow. The back bars have to be at least 5"s from the top bar ( if tied into the sides, and not the top bar itself ), and the top bar has to be 3"s above your helmet, but no more than 6"s away.

nxtruck
08-08-2006, 03:33 PM
Actually, that's why I had my cage done the way it is. I didn't want to be able to see the bars from the side, and in order for it to be certified, the inspector said that I would have to add the funny car bars to be able to run the rear bars out low and still be certified.

71Dragtruck
08-08-2006, 03:35 PM
By the way, weighed the tank and as it is with little more than 3/4 tank fuel, full NOS, 4128lbs.:( More than I thought, besides the steel body pannels and bumpers not much more to take off. Going to try for 4000lbs. this week, hood, inner fenders, CD player, 2-6x9's, and outer bumper braces that's about it without cutting.

nxtruck
08-08-2006, 04:17 PM

Went to the street night races last night...Local TV news wanted my truck there to do a piece on. Had me racing a new ZO6 vette. The Vette went 12.5 and I went 11.3. Bad news is the converter swap didn't work out. The stall was at 6500 rpm and sliping on the top end. It is a 8" ATI converter. The tranny temp went to 270 degrees:( So the tranny has to come out to be freshened and the converter cut open and repaired/tightened.
Big 2 day points race coming in 2 weeks...so I have to get it all fixed by then, but I'm out of town next weekend, so It looks like a lot of late nights.

Last weekend was our big Nitro Bash , i raced in Super Street and made it to the semi's . Finished in the money , out of 22 cars . I was pumped , and the truck got lots of attention , lol.
