Is the oil psi sending unit on the rear top of the engine (1988 350) like the older 72's?

mine is or was, i put in an after market gauge and ran the line to spot just above the oil filter. the original was where you said.

My 88 actually came with 2 sending units. One up high in usual place for the gauge and 1 on the side for the computer. It shuts the fuel pump down if low oil pressure is detected. The dual senders were discontinued a year or two later.

My 88 also has two sending units. Right now I have a mechanical gauge and the computer gauge on a tee fitting on the side. Will it make a difference if I had the mechanical gauge on the top instead? Also what is the point of having two sending units?

Thanks, mine is wigging out, it looks more like a richter scale than a psi gauge.
It will bounce from zero to pegged & hit pegged so hard that you can hear it hittting. They want $36.00 at the local parts house so I'm gonna see if I can clean the connections first.

The reason for 2 sending units was 1 for the gauge and 1 for the fuel pump. If oil pressure goes below a certain pressure the fuel pump will be turned off as a safety to save the engine. Since then GM went back to 1 sending unit but wired both the gauge and fuel pump to it. And there you have it.
