View Full Version : My 93 step just turned 317K miles
pamoffa 06-27-2006, 11:48 AM http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/205/dsc020191jf.jpg]Hi Guys I'm new here, I'm usually on the regal gs forum but found this chevy forum. I have a 93 chevy stepside that I bought in 95 with 20K miles. I put over 300k miles on it with out any major problems--same motor---same trans-- the only two things that stranded me was when the computer died and another time my fuel pump died, and the AC is a dog but it has been a great truck. I don't know if I should put money into this one to bring it back to life or buy a 2003. I attached a photo here.
Palf70Step 06-27-2006, 12:51 PM Welcome to the board from southern Mississippi. I edited your thread to get your picture to show. Looks like a nice truck. My opinion, stick with old fatihful and leave the 03 alone.
Yeah I agree. Not having a car note is nice.
Holy Crap! You should join the 200,000 Mile Club at www.chevy.com/200k (You may also call 1-800-950-CHEV). They have a section for 300k...
Anyhow, I agree too... stick with your 93 and put the $ into it. I feel that the older trucks can be just as reliable (maybe more!) for less $.
HtownPapiJc 06-28-2006, 08:11 PM No doubt shes a keeper!!! Change the front end to the new style and good as new... hey maybe even some new floor mats lol
300,000. Good grief man! Do you ever turn that thing off? Still looks good too. And welcome to the forums.
pamoffa 06-30-2006, 12:04 AM Most of the miles have been work related.. lets see here 317,000 miles would equal about 20,000 gallions of gas at about an average of $2.50 a gallon. is that $50k in gas money or is my math wrong. I have to say I've been planning to get rid of the truck for years but just can't do it. My truck is a friend. I've already put 50k on my regal and find it more distance friendly, I really can't take the friend on many long distance trips anymore.
89 crew 06-30-2006, 01:35 AM 300k, Not bad! My 91 suburban is at 426k and driven daily. the only thing that has been done is a intake manfold gasket once, and a couple 4l60's. TINK, does that mean I can sign up for the 200k club twice for the same truck? Or do I need to put another 75k on and then join the 300k and the 200k?
89 crew 06-30-2006, 01:47 AM Pamoffa, let's make this simple. if the engine, transmission, front, rear, brakes, and fuel pump are good, you can take it anywhere and it should come back with you! If you take the difference in what you can get for your 93 and what you have to pay for the 2003 and put that money into the 93 it will go further for less money than the 2003. also look at the extra insurance, property tax, and sales tax. I bet you haven't spent the extra property tax money per year on your 93. The only time it is really worth upgrading years is when the body isn't worth fixing.
notyettoday 07-12-2006, 10:47 AM Hold on to that truck, whatever it needs, get it done. Reliable truck, so many possibilities. My buddy had a z-71 that took 3rd in mud boggs and pulled out dozens of fords and toyotas
Chevyman35 07-16-2006, 12:18 AM Pamoffa, I am highly impressed that your truck has over 300K with few minior problems and I really think that you should keep it because I have to agree with 89 crew about the 2003.
You should update your grille, door mirrors, and others...that would make your truck a lot better, but I really like your truck that it looks clean and sharp.
Best Regard,
Austin

Keep it! It would be like shooting your dog 'cuz he was old. Seriously that's a good truck!:D
BTW Welcome to the board from South Mississippi!:D
Prop_Washer2 08-03-2006, 12:46 PM Which Engine and Tranny do you have Pamoffa??? My '98 has 143k, on the third water pump, radiator end caps, fuel pump, 1st set of rear shoes at 120k, front pads every 40k or so...little 305 cu.in. (5.0 L) 4L60 tranny. Front suspension feels loose, probably needs new stuff under there...
pamoffa 08-12-2006, 12:16 AM It has the 5.7 tbi, i'm not sure what trans it has, but it has overdrive.as far as I know this engine only has around 200 bhp.
smirch9 08-12-2006, 09:56 AM That truck is definatley a keeper! If you've put that many miles on it, keep up the regular maintenance and it will last a lot longer!
