Just looking for sources for free web page sites, like angelfire or geocities but maybe with more/better options and/or smaller, less obtrusive advertising.
I'm trying to throw one together at geocities but that damn sidebar popup thinger is annoying as hell! http://www.geocities.com/tugowar37/index.html
Any suggestions?

I would just go with some really cheap paid hosting. It would be worth $3 per month to avoid popups and other advertising.
This deal at 1and1 would be hard to beat:

I have had a site there in the past (they gave out 3 yearsof free service about 2.5 years ago), and have a friend who has a site there. No complaints so far from either of us.

EDIT: If the link does not work, look at the beginner package at 1and1.com. It offers 1 domain name, 5 GB web space, 500 e-mail accounts, and 250 GB traffic for $3 per month.

Thanks for ideas guys.
I think I may go with the 1&1, its cheap enough no doubt. Is 250 Gb per month pretty good? Say for instance if I put car show pics there and linked to them here, how quickly would I run out of bandwidth?

If you post photos (no video or audio) of a reasonable size, say 640X480, you should never run out of bandwidth. I run a photo gallery on my site, post pics to 4 boards like this one, and run a low usage board of my own (like this one, but with only about 75 members), and I don't think I have ever gone over 2 or 3 gigabytes in a month.
The exception would be if you post something people want very badly, and the whole world wants it, you could run out of bandwidth. A good example would be the camaro concept car photos that were leaked recently. If you posted them, word might get out, and eat up bandwidth quickly. What are the chances of that, though? You can also monitor your bandwidth if you are worried about something you post.
