how rare is this truck ?what is the bed worth ? i think it is a short bed, i know its a fleet side . thanks for the input ....tom

I used to think they were rare until I started looking for one. There still seems to be a lot of them around. Condition would be a factor. That bed seemed to rot quicker that a step.

To the right person in the right condition the bed could be worth $500 - $850, but I'm looking so I might pay if I had the cash and it was close enough. if its in CA I would have shipping so it would cut the price I would be willing to pay.

They aren't very rare when compared to something like a cameo. But it also depends a little on the region where you are at.

Up where I'm at everyone and there mother seems to have a step side, so the fleetside seems a little more rare or at least it is something a little different fromt he norm. Again though they really aren't all that rare, but 58-59 were the only years they made that particular style bed for the task force series.

so whats the difference between a cameo and a fleet?

The Cameo had fiberglass bed sides with trim down the sides and all were big window cabs. They made them from 55 to 58. The fleetside ware all steel. Here's a few pic's to show the difference. The first pic is the Cameo, the next is the fleetside.

And if it would have the chrome box side trim on the bulge it would be worth a lot of money to me! The custom cab models were much more seen on the coasts than out here in farm country.

The FIRST vehicle I ever bought for myself was a '59 short/wide/fleet big-window with all the trim, a factory V-8 and a big-window. I was in the Air Force stationed in Minot, North Dakota and I could only drive it on base because the lash in the rearend was so bad it would whine TERRIBLE above 20 mph and when you let off the gas. It was a great truck but my mechanical abilities were still VERY limited so I bought the most absoluteley beautiful 100% virgin '72 Nova I've ever seen and proceeded to personalize it. Both were great cars I wish I still had. A few career choices and MANY cars later I'm back to building a '56 Big-Window 20-years after selling that '59- and my dad had a really nice '55 20-years before that.
