I'm VERY new to the paint and body world.. I've been turning wrenches on cars/trucks for 12 years or so but never wanted to mess with body side of things... until now :D ok ok blah blah lol.

I've found a Century 110 Amp 110v mig w/argon for 389.00
Just wondering if thats a decent deal and is that enough to do basic sheetmetal work and occasional frame attachments. I dont plan on welding frames together but I will be adding a rear gas tank and will need to weld supports to the frame.

Whatcha guys think? Good deal or not enough power?

Is this new or used? I'm a novice when it comes to welding, but I work around many of them. When I got my welder they said get a lincoln or a miller. I got a lincoln 135 plus from http://www.welders-direct.com. I'm very pleased with it. The 135T is $394 and it is free shipping. I had mine in 3 days.

I think the only thing wrong with the 110V MIG welders is the duty cycle. They can't be used for very long bursts of time.

My brother ion law just bought a lincoln like yanks and it is a pretty snazzy unit for a $400.00 mig welder. More than enough welder for the backyard welder, not enough if you are doing it full time though...........JB

Little migs are the way to go for sheetmetal work. The smaller .023 wire (compared to .035 wire for bigger welders)will give less weld build thus less grinding. I wouldn't worry about the duty cycle unless you plan on welding for an hour straight. They are more than adequite for metal up to 3/16 thick. The only problen with them is that little bottle of gas dissapears really quickly. The shop I work at has three Lincoln 110's and are used exclusively for body repairs. Stitch welds or plug welds (99 per cent of body welding) requires more off time than on time anyway.
