Shifty, I hate to keep asking for your help but you DO seem to know what to do so I am asking again. Would you look at the Hijack log and see if you see anything wrong. Since my fiasco recently with user profile problems, seems like I am having speed and connection issues. Mostly, they are intermittant problems. Who knows what I may have screwed up last week trying to fix that profile problem.
I have been on the phone half a dozen times with comcast and, naturally, most of the time it's working 100% they say. Tonight he said he saw a 20 % signal loss when he pinged it. I even had trouble in trying to get the Hijack this to work. They are sending someone out next monday to check things out again. We had a lot of rain last week and I don't know if that may have done something on the pole.
I swear, in my next life, I am not ever going to turn on a computer or what ever new fangled contraption they will have to mess with my mind...................:help:

I don't see anything bad in that logfile :(

Usually intermittent outages or bad connections are A) hard to diagnose and B) a sign of line problems. the only thing i see that i don't recognize is the "spywarebot" software. i don't think it's bad though.

Go to Start -> Run -> type: msconfig
go to the Startup tab and uncheck these entries:

Intermittent network connections can be drivers, the network cable itself, the modem... if it is a cable modem then if there are too many splitters in line before it gets to it, this can cause dropped connections at the cable modem.... also Norton has been problematic lately, there have been some known flaws found in their software recently LINK (http://news.com.com/Symantec+flaw+leaves+opening+for+viruses/2100-1002_3-5569811.html)

This is why I use AVG, a-squared, Spyware Blaster, AdAware, Spybot and ZoneAlarm.

Go to Start -> Run -> type: msconfig
go to the Startup tab and uncheck these entries:

If he does this, he will lose some functionality of his printer and it will also completely disable his ability to share his printer with other people (on a network, etc.)

Disabling this will stop his Nikon digital camera picture software from loading up at boot (which some people rely on - not everyone uses Scanner and Camera wizard)

The realplayer I agree with ... and I saw other things that could be removed to speed up the system...but I've found it's best to take things one step at a time until the system is fixed, rather than do a bunch of removals at once and potentially create more problems...
