How much is reasonable money-wise for a standard single stage paint job.

This all depends on how much body work is needed and how nice you want the finished product.

Well lets just say all the body work is done and is ready for primer. and Iwant it looking top shelf.

Well if body work is finished and let's say all panels are straight. ANd ready for first primering. I would be willing to say your looking at 1000 - 1500 dollars for a decent looking paint job. Paint materials alone are gunna cost 600 to 800 more or less. For the quality paint. You can find cheaper paint but you get what you pay for.And this depends on what color you want also.I have seen them go as high as 10,000. of course that is for mirror like finish.

Then your looking at a easy grand I would say. You could always go with Maaco 499.99. Might last a year or two if you take care of it.

No dont want to go that route Im talkin a good paint-job that will last
so you think at least a grand ok well what if all the body work wasnt done?
around 2500 or so?

I would say at least 2500 - 4,000. And this depends alot on the person you get to do it, and exactlly what body work needs done. I would ask for reference's before you commit to somebody doing it for you. If you lived closer I could set you up.

Last complete I painted for someone I charge $600 for labor and $900 for supplies.. That was for single stage...I would've charged $800 labor for base/clear. My labor includes D/A sanding bare metal, D/A sanding the surfacer, cleaning, masking if needed, top coat, and buffing and polishing...

Just an idea on what supplies alone can run, I am planning on $1800 for the supplies alone for my 71, and that is with Jobber pricing...

Some of the products out there are NOT CHEAP... MartinSenour has a primer/surfacer that is AWESOME but runs ~$300 per gallon. and the also have a killer clear for ~$275 a gallon take into account the reducers and hardners and the B/C and it adds up QUICK...

I think that it really depends on your labor rate in the state you reside, since you live in bama it might be half the price that it might be in one of your higher labor rate states like Ca, or NY usually the southern states are cheaper because the cost of living is cheaper. I have know of people that live in bigger cities to send there cars that they want to restore to the southern states and save thousands cause of the cheaper labor rates
