Building a new rig and I need to get XP Pro. Where can I get the best deal on a legit copy?

I usually get all my system parts and OS from NEWEGG (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16837102062) but PRICEWATCH (http://www.pricewatch.com/software_oper_system/4181-2.htm) is always handy, just read the fineprint.

I don't know who is cheapest, but newegg has been really good to me. They are very competitive.

The problem with cheapest is that you may get pirated software.

I have used them too with good results.

The problem with cheapest is that you may get pirated software.

That's why I specified a legit copy :)

Anyways, I thought I remembered a thread a while back where you could buy XP Pro at a decent price and get discount pricing when Vista comes out. . .

Sound familiar to anyone?

My response was as much a reply to the pricewatch suggestion as anything. Pricewatch, cheapest, and legit are words that don't belong together. :)

Hehe. Im a middle of the road fella, I would rather pay more and feel better than pay less and wonder. Pricewatch has always seemed kind of sketchy to me but they have links to cheap stuff which is what some people look for.

I'd hafta use the search feature to find it. if you look for the words "professional" and "home" in this individual forum, you will find the thread, no doubt.

I found it an old PM from you--called Software advantage???? If so, doesn't look like Dell offers XP Pro any longer. . .

Me too. I look for the cheapest reputable dealer. I'm a cheap bastard, but I also like to avoid headaches. I have known a couple of people who paid shady vendors to have Win XP put on a custom built computer and now have problems with Windows Genuine Advantage or whatever it is called. That's the kind of problem I like to avoid.
