View Full Version : Por15, the other products?
KAILUAZ 08-02-2006, 03:01 AM So I decided to use Por-15 on the floors of my cab and probably on the frame etc.
I also have the common small rust holes on the cab at the drip rail and areas around the doors that need to be fixed.
I'm doing this all on my own and this is my first tackle at rust/body work.
Anyone use their other products such as the Restogrip and Straight line body filler?
I'm going for a Rat Rod look so "perfect" is not needed, just fixed.
Thanks in advance!
blaserman 08-02-2006, 05:32 AM If you are going to use POR15 make sure you wear a in line mask. To many of use on this web have had some problems with inhaling the vapors.
jcfoote60 08-02-2006, 07:43 AM I just did my floorpans in POR-15. I just had the shop doors open, used a standard respirator and used sponge brushes...turned out awesome! The vapors sponging it on were not a big deal,, I was surprised. I think if you spray it or do the painting in an enclosed area is where you would run into issues. sponge brushing it on looked like I had sprayed it, the flow of this coating is pretty amazing. Good luck, I think you will like the results
chevyboy55 08-02-2006, 10:19 AM I used the repair cloth, amazing stuff! I was kinda leery as it is so thin. It really set up rock hard though. I never have used any of the fillers.
KAILUAZ 08-02-2006, 11:47 AM From what I read on their site I can use the por-15 on the rust, then go over the holes with the body filler and smooth it out.
Like I said it does not have to be perfect.
This por-15 stuff sounds handy, where would I go to buy it? Don't reckon this is something Lowe's is likely to have is it?

I was in a local auto paint store the other day buying supplies and I noticed they carry it...you might check the stores in your area that supply the paint shops. I am just using Rustoleum Gloss Black on my frame. Im not badmouthing POR at all but Rustoleum is a fraction of the cost, no vapors and it comes off your skin with some mineral spirits. I will post some pics once I get it finished...if it ever stops raining!

The local NAPA here has it on the shelf. About $45-$48 a quart.

MrDanB 08-13-2006, 05:16 PM If you get a por catalog, you will find that they all sorts of handy tips for their other products. For example, I have a 69 Camaro that needed a new steering wheel. A friend showed me how to widen the cracks with a saw blade and then use the 2 part putty. It came out fantastic! Then I used the SEM vinyl spray can to paint it up and a clear after that. i used the hi-temp manifold silver stuff and it made my manifolds and water pump look like cast iron from the factory! The stuff is very messy and an open garage door/window/fans etc are good ideas when working with it. Do NOT ever get any on your skin. You will have to wear it off. Turpentine won't even touch the stuff! The power mesh made my hands itch because I cut it up with scissors without gloves, so don't ever do that either:hm: Read the directions first and let us know how it turns out!!

Longhorn Man 08-13-2006, 05:24 PM Gloves are a MUST, as is cardboard or plastic on the floor if you want your floor to not have spots on it forever.
Read the directions, and follow them to the tee.
Rustolium is some good stuff... however, it is NOTHING compaired to POR15. It's like using duct tape to intall cab corners, verses welding.
KAILUAZ 08-14-2006, 09:33 AM Got my catalog yesterday, lots of great products. The cab floors will be a no brainer, I'm just wondering about fixing the rust on the cab drip rails and other minor but rusted through spots. Like I said, I'm going rat-rod so it doesn't have to be picture perfect, just need the rust to stop spreading.
Fun, fun, fun........
