my bud noticed last night that i have a spark show when i start the truck. we found the spark show but cant figure out whats sparking.
it sparks/jumps around right at my shifter mechanism on the trans. there is a harness there and a red wire that was plugged into the fuse box (top/middle hole for fuel i think ?). i covered both/insulated both/moved both by hand and still get the sparks. the only thing i didnt move/unplug was my kickdown wires (th400)
any ideas ? it only sparks when you hit the key and thats it. no sparks other than that. doesnt affect the truck starting/running that i can tell.

could be that the engine is grounding thru the shifter cable on start. Use to be a problem with the camaro/firebirds in 70's when the engine was replaced. Grounds from the engine to the frame/firewall were left off. Only path for the ground was the cable. Often the insulation would melt right off the shifter cable.

And it would make the shifter bind after a while.

Looks like the starter is looking for a good ground thru the linkage from body to engine.

nope... it was a chevy Citation... it was a 4 speed... does that help with cool points? How about the fact I drove it for a year with absolutly no exhaust system? No? I drove it liek i stole it..that's gotta be cool.
Ahhhh, now I remember what i did with that car that was so cool... I (literally) broke it in half.

I realy shouldn't poke fun at ya. I used to drive a Fairmont. Inline 6. My lawn mower had more get-up-and-go. :drama:
Cool factor? Uhhh, the AC worked.

Your fairmont probably had more rust than my Citation did too... and when i left the headlights on, they described it over the PA as the silver and BROWN chevy. ..it had no brown paint on it.
