I was wondering what paint I should use to go with a suede paint job. I want to do a flat light blue color. Should I use tinted epoxy primer that everyone is raving about on the board? Or I thought I saw something about sanding down a reg paint job, is that the way to go? Would you shoot the clear, or just paint the base coat? Anyone who has done this please help out. Thanks. :flag:

I'm into gloss myself, but I was helping a friend clean out his garage and he gave me a gallon of flatting base. I think thats what you will need to mix with the paint to get that suede effect.

I wonder if you put that in the color or the clear. I'll check out the paint store tomorrow. They didnt seem to know about a flat paint when I asked them about that. Thanks!!!! :flag:

I see that the PPG tintable primer is all the rage now. There was an old Studebaker pickup in Classic trucks last month that was done in the red tinted primer. The satin finish looked very nice on that truck!!

You can take any base coat, add a little urethane activator (hardener) to it, I'm talking little, like 6:1 ratio, then reduce it, and it will give you some UV protection, while not being shiny. If you look at that satin or matte finish on some of the newer vehicles trim, and or bumper covers, that is how it is achieved.
