Looks good, only one bad thing here:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gfxrchsi] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gfxrchsi.exe

Also, this is "potentially" bad (see below for more info):

O2 - BHO: ShprRprts - {2A8A997F-BB9F-48F6-AA2B-2762D50F9289} - C:\Program Files\ShopperReports\Bin\2.0.0\ShprRprt.dll

O9 - Extra button: ShopperReports - Compare product prices - {946B3E9E-E21A-49c8-9F63-900533FAFE14} - C:\Program Files\ShopperReports\Bin\2.0.0\ShprRprt.dll

O9 - Extra button: ShopperReports - Compare travel rates - {946B3E9E-E21A-49c8-9F63-900533FAFE15} - C:\Program Files\ShopperReports\Bin\2.0.0\ShprRprt.dll

But your mom probably added it on purpose. It is classified as spyware at some places, others it is not. If AVG and Spysweeper don't see it as spyware, don't remove it.

Once you fix (or don't fix) the items above, you should reboot and submit another log - when that one line is removed and you reboot, it might try to reload itself.

Thanks--I will reomve them tonight and post a new log.

Ewido online scanner indicated a trojan downloader named Keenval. Also, some 600+ adware entries--the online scan took almost 2 hours. Is this tied to the shopper reports entries?

I also removed AVG and installed AVAST--it identified and removed 4 other trojans but I did not make note of the names.

I would download and install Ewido - it's free/full functionality for 30 days and will wipe it clean if it's there. I suggest booting up in safe mode and going from there. The item I bolded could be the trojan.

Keenvalue info: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.keenval.html

If the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\KeenValue does not exist on your mom's system, I dunno what to say. I do not see an indication that it has ever been installed and if you don't see any files as they are listed in that Symantec adware report (such as the .exe file in the C:\ folder), then it might have gotten on the system but never installed.

The 600 adware items probably include a buttload of cookies, and, yes, could be related to the shopper report stuff.

I tried the safe mode thing and I get an error message indicating Windows did not start successfully. Where to from here?

"Fix" the O4 line above that I indicated and reboot.

Go ahead and install the full version of Ewido on the computer, update it, then scan in regular mode. Fix anything that comes up. Reboot. Scan again. Let me know if it finds anything. If you want to post another log, please do (can't hurt)

04 line 'fixed'

Also, not sure if it means anything but I have 'fixed' the two shopper reports entries you see in this log but they come back.

With regard to the shopper reports stuff, can you look in the Control Panel in the Add/Remove Programs section to see if there is a shopper reports entry there? I would be curious to know if it's possible to remove it using the features that XP implemented. this is always a great first-bet.

also, if you do not close all open programs when clicking the "fix" button, it may not remove everything you're trying to fix. this is especially true if you leave your browser windows open. the best thing to do is to check off the lines using the browser as a reference, then close all programs, then click "fix".

There is no shopper reports entry in the add/remove programs however there are three other entries that I cannot remove due to 'missing initialization file' or something along those lines. Those items are:
Atomic Pop
Dark Orbit
Gem Master

Anyways, I think I may have failed to close the browsser when I 'fixed' the shopper reports entries. I'll try again tonight.

Those three itmes sound like games. Proper way to fix it would be finding and reinstalling the game, then using add/remove to delete it. The problem you're seeing often happens when people just delete or move the game folder. A lot of people still have the misconception that to "uninstall a program", you just remove the files with it, but that actually screws things up :D

I can give you an alternate solution to remove those three game entries. Let me know the result of the HJT removals.
