Hey all, As you see tonights upgrades included alot of changes. The forums have been reorganized and the parts forums have been converted into a Classifieds system. The current classified boards will remain up for a week in order for all current for sale items to be reposted in the classifieds sections. Check it all out, and post any comments, suggestions, or questions here.

Will you be moving them from the current location?

No,the software does not have that ability, and none of us are going to hand copy every ad. The old area is being left open for week to give time for sales to finish up. All ads can be reposted by the original thread owner in the new area.
All the ads in the old system will go to an archive in a week or so.

roj2323
I'm not to sure on the question, but its the same as the system was befor, you just post an ad and write what you have for sale in it. You can upload multi pics and there are two non year specific catagories.
I hope that helps, if not just let us know

Thanks. You may want to be more specific that people should move them if not sold by the end of the week. You know men - direct works best.

Just didn't say who would be doing it, that's all I was getting at.

The first thing that I see in the new Classifieds is you cannot tell where the part is, unless the seller states it in the description. In the current one, most of the time you can see the location under their name (if they divulge it). And location is important to me.

Liz
08-21-2006, 02:49 PM
Thats a really good point. Without clicking the users profile on each ad you can not tell. Maybe it should be manditory to have the location in the title on all ads?
Josh has been working on a zipecode database as well, but it would help if all members put their state in the title of the ad

When you post a comment why can you not see what you posted on another persons ad?

Liz
08-21-2006, 06:36 PM
You should be able to as far as I know. If you can't there is likely a setting off a lil, noted to be looked into :)

Site looks nice, and the classified section is easy to navigate. I really like the soft colors, easy on the eyes.:c2:

I screwed up my first ad (hard to believe, huh) and tried to delete it. I got a second posting instead. Is there a "delete" button?

I tried to post a reply to a classified ad and it said "You don't have permission to post comments for ads in this category"
Is that because I am not a paid subscriber to the board?

no, you should be able to reply either way. When we tested it out last night after fixing it, I posted on a regular registered user account with no problem. I'll test again tonight with it, and have Josh look into the issues he had yesterday with this.
Thanks :) and sorry..

What happened to the picture section?

Burnsman
08-22-2006, 09:18 PM
I tried to post an ad with a picture and it didn't take. It always worked under the old format. Do I need to re-size it differently for the new system or am I doing something wrong? I also tried to go in and edit it and it wouldn't take it either. It says it has been edited successfully, but it doesn't show up. Being that I'm not very computer literate, it's probably something I'm doing.............

Liz

I did a test ad, using a subscribing account to post, then posting a comment as an admin, and again a comment as a registered non sub account. All worked fine for me. I see all the comments from all the accounts etc. I took screen shots of each step of placing the ad and will do a post.. not sure where to put it tho :hm: so I'll post it in the FAQ site related area as soon as I upload the photos.

If you have problems posting in the classified area, please give specifics so we can try and narrow it down some more. I am new to the software as well, so its a learning thang for me too.. Maybe the screen shots will help some tho.

Burnsman I forgot to add, I have no clue on the size limits of the pics. I used a 640x480 in my test post and it allowed that. So anything that size or smaller should be good to go.

I tried it again this morning and got the same error message, "You don't have permission to post comments for ads in this category"

I am a registered user, but not a paid one.

It is an ad in the 67-72 parts section, an ad by chevdanbarnett.

The ad is there, the pictures and description are there and also the quick reply box, I type my reply in there, the screen starts to change like normal like it's posting and then a big blue box comes up with the above message. I don't have the ability to send a screen shot, but hopefully you can help me. I can always PM the seller, but I know most sellers want it posted in the thread per say, so other people know what is going on with a particular item. I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not, but I have always had problems with the "quick reply" in threads, never could get them to post, always had to use the regular reply option.

I have no clue :) you should be able to post. I used a registered non subscribing account to post, and had no issue. Please PM the seller and explain to him that you are trying to reply and we are working with you .. even refer him to this post if you wish.. I will ask a few registered accounts to test this, and see what we can fingure out.

I have been in contact with the seller, he posted saying I was taking that particular part. Maybe it is just his ad, not really sure, I guess I could try on a different ad, but don't want to mess anything up. Maybe you could try posting on his ad and see what happens.

I spoke with Josh about this, and tonight we will be setting up a testing catagory in the classified section to help troubleshoot the issues that we are unable to duplicate at this time.

We will go ahead and post the details here when its up. wydomkr I will PM you the info as well, so we can get this sorted out for you.

Liz, I do have one ?? about it, I replied to a guys thread in new classified section, is it supposed to bring it to the top when someone replies? It stayed where he had it listed, 4 or 5 spots down? Just curious, Thanks Randy

There are several ways to view the ads. It isn't the same software as the forums, but intigrates with it, so I do not believe it moves the post order like the forums do. You can however view posts by most recent, most views, highest price, lowest etc. so it all depends on what view someone chooses to where the post will be.

I have never used this software before, just played with it.. so keep the questions coming.. its helping all of us learn as we go.

Liz / Josh, I have two ads in the new classifieds but have no responses/comments as of yet. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or perhaps no one has responded yet.

Oh yea, also noticed that neither one showed up in my list of subscribed threads, never had that problem before.

Thanks

Josh
08-24-2006, 10:27 PM
The new classifieds will not show up on subscribed threads, it's a seperate system from the vbulletin forum software. There is a view my ads thing you can use to see all of the ads you have posted tho. I'd link to it but its user specific so a link to my ads wouldnt do any good :) It's located on the classifieds in the left side of the lil cfassified navigation bar, exact opposite of place an ad.

Your ads look righ tot me, I'm not sure why there are so few responses but we're working on teaching everyone how to reply and working out the related bugs.

chevdanbarnett, do you have a link to an example of what your trying to do? I'm unsure of how they are posting them without looking.

chevdanbarnett, the way he posted was using the img tags. The comments/replies work like the message board along with the formatting code so you can add pictures that are hosted elsewhere into the ad.

Hey,
So I sorta get why this site is going to the classifieds system of doing things but what's the deal with the "Contact Buyer" going to email? Shouldn’t this go to my PM box? The option would at least be nice since I have no clue what the email might read considering all of them are titled "A message about your ad on ". Honestly at first I thought this was a new type of porn Spam as it's very vague as most Spam is. Please conceder adding a contact option for the poster to direct messages to either their email or pm box, as well as doing something with the email titles. something like "A message about your classified on the 67-72 board" would work great.

Thanks and keep up the great work. It’s appreciated.

When I was having trouble posting to Scotts ad, I used the "contact Buyer" link, he said he never got it, possible it just went to a spam folder, I do agree it should go to PM and not email.
