:new: and could use some advice. I just recently inherited a 1965 c-10 from a friend of mine who's dream was to rebuild his truck. I'm gonna finish this project for him. The truck has been sitting for over 15 years. I've got the motor in pretty good shape and ready to start, but the gas tank has some rust and about 1/4 inch of gummy tar like old fuel in the bottom. My question is: is there any to get the tank clean or should I just buy a new one?

If there is no holes in the gas tank, you can has it cleaned out at a radiator shop. But if it has alot of pin holes, it's best to either get a good used one at bone yard, or buy a new one a for a hundred bucks.

Also check to see if the bottom section of the fuel sending unit in the tank is clogged, you can probably clean it out with some solvent, or maybe carb cleaner. If the little metal strap is broke, you can get a new one for I think $30.

Once you have the tank boiled out, POR15 makes an excellent product for coating the inside of the tank & preventing it from ever having rust again. Google them & check out their web site. I've used a lot of their products with amaizing results.

If you want the cheap route get the 3 part eastwood kit and let it soak for a long time. Don't forget the fuel pump and carb too
