View Full Version : ARMY themed truck?
ratrod67 08-28-2006, 09:57 AM Something is rolling around in my head. What would an ARMY theme look like on a 67-72 SWB? Normally I think that theme type stuff is corny but wonder how this would look. Basically an Olive drab green truck with a few paint accents and maybe some surplus materials. Kinda done in a ratrod type way. Thinking maybe a white star done on the door and maybe some type of noseart done on the back lower right side of the tailgate. Not sure if it would look better with wide whites or just a blackwall tire. Would for sure be using a steel wheel painted black with bullets and chrome lug nuts. Maybe someone can put a few of the ideas in the following pics so I can see what it would look like?
Funny you mention this. I was going to do this to my truck but went for the blue instead. Do it.
Sorry no pic.

ratrod67 08-29-2006, 01:40 PM Just what I was looking for. Thank you!!
Primered_69 08-29-2006, 03:45 PM I would lose the side trim though. Military vehicles do not do much if any chrome it throws it off for me.
KAILUAZ 08-31-2006, 02:09 AM Exactly what I'm planning! This is going to be my door sign (gotta have a door sign). Rex is my sons name;

C-Notes 09-01-2006, 10:41 AM Here ya go. I love the white walls on this pickup.

Thanks. Here's a couple pics right after the paint. I'm still trying to get it finished. The interior is done. I just need to finish up the motor.
KAILUAZ 02-28-2007, 11:26 PM Any pics of the interior?

I hope this guy isnt alone when he has to turn on the headlights.. the switch is all the way on the passenger side. I wonder what he has it wired as though, I am sure its not actually the headlights.
I think the overall paint job would look better as a 67-72 chevy/gmc.
Thanks. Here's a couple pics right after the paint.
Looks good. For those of you posting with "nose art"... it might look better on the nose rather than the door.
1lowdiesel 03-01-2007, 12:53 PM what about at the back of the bed
what about at the back of the bed
Ultimately, you can put it wherever you want... but it's called "nose art." And it's found on the nose of warplanes. If someone is going with the theme... it makes sense that they'd want to adhere to the theme's "rules."
1lowdiesel 03-01-2007, 01:42 PM i see said the blind man to his deaf dog...good point
sorestgore 03-06-2007, 08:00 PM army THEMED? screw that, how bout a ARMY TRUCK, as in an actual one, like my 72 stepside, under that shatty, ugly baby-blue primer that a bunch of students sprayed her when it was purchased by a school system, lies the original "US ARMY" decals, and since the dumbass kids decided to just paint over them, you can still see the edges of all the letters through that ugly paint. it used to be olive drab too!!!, and the sticker in the glovebox includes "ARMY marketing graphics." this isn't AT ALL useful to anyone here, i just get excited knowing that when i bought my truck there was a machine-gun tripod still mounted in the bed, as well as a mortar tube compartment in the cab!!

yah but war planes have their squadron insignia on the tails too.....I think art of some sort on the tailgate or rear qp would be fine. I had been dabbling the thought of the same idea for my 65'.
pyro883 03-07-2007, 07:21 PM 248646
New warplane.....in Iraq, no nose art, they are on the from almost front quaterpanel like anymore. There is a CH-46 squadron out here that has pin up girls painted up there. There pretty much bad ass paintings :metal:
NF65Fleetside 03-09-2007, 11:59 AM ^^^^ nice to see the Harrier still being used, thought that bird was going into retirement? It outlasted the Tomcat!

They are going to outlast the F-18s too. They are already phasing out F-18 squadrons to make ready for the JSF. Harriers are going after them. The newest version of the Harrier has only been around since the mid-90s at the latest.
NF65Fleetside 03-09-2007, 05:02 PM nooooooooooo not the Hornet!....daym that was/is such a badass plane! I had an old hunting partner that flew them. Recon Squadron that used to be out of El Toro....loooove the F-18!!!!
Blackcypress-EB 03-12-2007, 01:16 AM Now your truck really knows what it is like in the Army.

Typical marine, for no reason coming out and instigating a "mine is bigger than yours" contest... feeling insecure?
Blackcypress-EB 03-15-2007, 05:53 PM That took long enough. Have a good one:frog:
earl87gta 04-07-2007, 11:06 PM Thanks. Here's a couple pics right after the paint. I'm still trying to get it finished. The interior is done. I just need to finish up the motor.
Man that is the way I want the my burb. Im going to use Hummer wheels and have every thing painted black. I even have to grinades one to use on the shifter and one for the transfer case. My wife thinks its crazy and would rather i paint it blue with a lot of chrome. Is it ok if I use one of you pics to have some one on here tuch up the paint on my burb?
hgs_notes 04-09-2007, 12:07 AM You have to lose the white walls for a military theme. Unless it's the Coast Guard maybe. I liked those Navy ones, not that I'm partial, but the color theme. BTW, almost all navy vehicles are plain white or plain blue. At least they were when I was in.
HG
69halfton 04-27-2007, 11:03 PM on the door, or at the front of the bed, not the nose or the back, you gotta keep it between the wheels,
looks super nice, love to see something different for a change!
