How does one join a group?

I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

go to your user cp and on the left toward the bottom is a link for "group memberships"

If you click that you can select the public joinable groups you like.

As far as I know, you will still miss alot, not sure they are functional
other than just being a member of them, but I could be wrong too :(
