Hi - finally got a weekend to take a drive over to my project and see if I could get power going. I cleaned up the negative/ground connection, and was able to supply power. Two questions:

When I try to start it, I hear "click click click click..." - I didn't do so well in auto mechanics in Grade 8; is this a starter solenoid issue? If so, where is it located?
The turn indicator lights don't flash - is that just the turn signal relay that needs replacement?

Thanks for any help.

My first thought on "click, click, click" it the battery itself. Be sure that it is fully charged and that the connections are tight and corrosion free. Then look for ground straps. There should be one connecting the engine the the frame and another from the body to the frame. After that, check the wires where they connect to the starter. The connections at the starter are on the solenoid. If you still get nothing after all of that, it is probably best to take the starter off and have it tested at a local auto parts store.

If they determine that it is faulty and you buy a new/rebuilt one...DO NOT turn your original in as a "core" just yet. I realize that this is a bit of a pain, because you will have to make a second trip to turn in the core, but there is a point to this.

When you install the new starter there is a chance that you can have alignment issues (resulting in dragging or grinding). If you don't.....return the core and be thankful. If you do, you still have the original nose cone casting from the old one. (this of course assumes that the original didn't make noises either) If the new does make grinding noises you can swap the nose cone from the old one. It's not hard and it sure beats the shimming hassles and experimentation.

The turn signal problem may be as simple as a bad bulb or the flasher unit.

I agree, try jump starting it first.
For your turn signals, hit the 4 ways, and do a walk around, what ever doiesn't light up, replace the bulb. If the signals still don't flash, swap the 4 way flasher unit for the turn signal flasher unit. If it works now, then you need to replace the one you just put in the 4 way spot.
If they still don't work, then you may have bigger problems.
