Nice work. What do you have for front susp? It sits way low for a 6 hole front & no motor...

57sailplane 09-16-2006, 06:17 PM Nice work. What do you have for front susp? It sits way low for a 6 hole front & no motor...
hey cornfed63
ya if you notice there is a shot of one of the coils laying on the floor.. just pulled them out to see what it was gonna look like with the mustang II drop suspension in it. i plan on going at least this low in the front and back and maybe a little lower in front.
57sailplane, could you provide me a better shot of the completed radio area? I'm thinking about filling it in as well and wondering what this looks like.
57sailplane 10-31-2006, 11:52 AM hey brad
here are some pictures yet it is still not complete. it needs a little filler on the edge above the heater controls. and here are som pictures of my latest design work. i am step notching useing modified parts from a differant frame. you quys will be happy to note that these came off a frontal damaged truck what was left of her. just cab and frame. oh ya what do you think of my tranny cooler i picked up for 10 dollars at the same yard. this thing should keep my tranny cool its huge..
57sailplane 10-31-2006, 11:55 AM rest of the pictures
Thanks for the pics. I may do something similar down the road.
Yukon Jack 11-01-2006, 08:24 AM That's going to be a seriously bad truck. Keep us posted!
57sailplane 11-13-2006, 07:03 PM It droped.
I know not very far along but i did get somthing done this weekend. the front is coming down farther as soon as i get some mustang II a-frames.. i am going to build my own front cross member. this thing is going to be a coil over truck not baged so it will ride perty low for springs. you guys have any ideas on how close i can run the frame to the rear axcel with 150# springs.
JameslovesJammie 11-14-2006, 01:32 AM Dude!!! Haven't you heard? Filling the radio hole will make your truck worthless!!! At least that's what some say about cutting it to put a cd player in.
You better just donate that truck to me and I'll take care of it for you so you don't have to live with the shame anymore! :gi:
ghetto_superman 11-14-2006, 02:02 AM this thing is gonna rock the beef when its done.
Bishops Trucks 11-14-2006, 03:05 AM We as men never get tired of build threads. Keep the pics coming and it looks great.
sixty8c10 11-14-2006, 03:10 AM nice progress...keep it up
57sailplane 11-30-2006, 11:27 PM well here is my latest progress. relocation of panard bar. i think the coilovers will fit now.
57sailplane 11-30-2006, 11:28 PM the rest
57sailplane 11-30-2006, 11:31 PM my only concern is the weight i keep adding to make it work right. mayby someday a nice light weight 4link but for now were doin it cheep.
57sailplane 06-25-2007, 09:15 PM well,
i made a little progress, feels like i am going backwards.. anyways heres some pictures of my mustang II install and my knew 9 inch its got strange axels and gears and a nodular 3rd member..
57sailplane 06-25-2007, 09:17 PM more pics last 2 show 0 degrees. i was only 1 degree off with my first cut in. its usally more dificult for me to get things right
RACINJASON22 06-25-2007, 11:23 PM It's been awhile since you updated so I had not seen your build yet, until now.
May I say, we need more regular updates on this one for sure. :metal:
Very Very Nice Work. I like it alot.
I do know how things are though, I have not even started a build thread yet so I have no room to talk
RJ22...:)
Yukon Jack 06-26-2007, 10:14 AM Good to see an update!
57sailplane 07-03-2007, 07:35 PM got the Heidts II done well almost. think I'm going to add a bolt in frame reinforcement.. here some pictures. waiting on washers and nuts for the hubs. yes more progress.:metal:
57sailplane 08-30-2008, 12:43 PM well i have made some progress..
suspension is pretty much done.. the only thing i might add is the brakets to adjust the drag arms up and down in the at the front of them. colom is in and fully functional. the ride height can be adjusted up and down all the way around. this is probably lower than what i will be driving on the strip or street. anyways here are pics..
57sailplane 08-30-2008, 12:45 PM here some more pics
ofnaman 08-30-2008, 01:22 PM Awesome project. I wish I had a place to do something like that with mine. It's nice to see that you've basically built everything you can instead of buying it. Keep it up.
deweychop 08-30-2008, 01:29 PM Man, that is one cool build you have going on.
eightbanger 08-30-2008, 01:30 PM Mate you are extremly talented and should be proud of your efforts so far...keep us posted. And nice vans by the way.
71Dragtruck 08-30-2008, 08:02 PM Looking good, was wondering what the he11 happened to you, glad to hear what you got done so far. Continue to keep us informed as you go.
djracer 08-31-2008, 09:25 AM looking good! Did you make the antiroll? any closer pics of it?
scatesracing 08-31-2008, 07:08 PM LOOKs great............. Keep us in the know......... Any plans 4 a power plant yet??
57sailplane 08-31-2008, 10:41 PM thanks guys you would not believe how many times i have pulled parts and put them back in to get everything just right. you can see at the top of the page that i changed my origanal location for the panard bar..
djracer i got the anti roll bar off ebay. here is there web site. you can pick up on one side of the truck and the back tire starts to lift right with the frame so there is no twist from side to side between the axle and the frame.. it looks like it will work very well. here is the linky
http://www.d-mproducts.com/
skatesracing here is a pic of my sbc. i bought most everything to support either alot of nos or boost. and i am definatly leaning toward boost....
Super73 09-01-2008, 12:16 AM Are you going to amke a mount for the LCA's similar to what I did? If so, may I suggest going up as well as down from the stock location..
scatesracing 09-01-2008, 11:17 AM sweet....
prostreet1967 09-13-2008, 06:02 PM any info on the front suspension would like to go that route on my truck. any more pics of it.
57sailplane 09-13-2008, 11:23 PM this is the kit i used.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HEIDTS-KX-102-E-Universal-Mustang-II-IFS-Econo-Kit-60_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ34200QQihZ024QQitemZ370081631101QQrdZ1QQ sspagenameZWD1V
its the 60" wide kit cause are trucks are so wide. you will notice that the tire still set in some. i then bougth the upper and lower a frames and the rack. you must also buy the rack extensions. to keep everthing lined up and hopefully elimnate any bumpsteer. i also bought the disk brakes and spindles. everything was off ebay. for only like around 1100 dollars. the qa1 coil overs were 400 plus.
after cutting big notches into the tops of the center crossmember i then welded in the steel brackets that i cut from a 8x8 square tube. i welded these to the center crossmember tacking everthing first and making sure everthing was level. i then welded the out spring purches or hats to the square tube brackets i made. this was done trying to keep the measurments as close to what was given with the crossmember. i then fitted everthing to the crossmember. believe me when i say this is not a straight foward put togather kit. you really must do a lot of mesuring and making sure it all lines up lik you want. i read alot of the tec articles on the heidts sight also. remeber that it can be done but do your home work. and you should be just fine.
here are some pics of the cross member... the red lines indicate the areas that i cut off..
PA-IndianRider 09-15-2008, 05:58 AM Dude!!! Haven't you heard? Filling the radio hole will make your truck worthless!!! At least that's what some say about cutting it to put a cd player in. :gi:
I thought that was said about an "8 track player"..... ha!!!
custom72c20 09-23-2008, 11:54 PM Nice truck! What are the specs on the motor? What primer did you use?
57sailplane 09-24-2008, 09:13 PM i have not had the motor dynod yet.. the parts are as follows.
demon 825 drag carb
2" 4-hole ported carb spacer
performance plus huricane intake
the 350 block is the high nickel 2 bolt drilled and asembled with splayed main caps. large water jacket holes pluged and drilled with 1/4 inch holes. water jakets have been rock blocked to freeze plugs.. decked, bored , magenifluxed and hot tanked..
heads are reher morison cnc ported and polished including chambers dart pro 1's. finished with hd milodon intake and exhaust valves toped with titainium locks and keepers. 1.6 to 1 comp pro magnum rockers. comp roller 635 lift 292 duration cam with corisponding valve springs for 1.6 to 1 rockers.
bottom end starts with all usa cola lightweigt 3.75 strocker crank. bought before they were bought out..
oliver billet rods with the 1500 hp rod bolts.. and ross custom pistons
compression should be right at 10.1 to 1
hp i hope will be in the 500 hp range with around the same amount of torque.
i built this thing with a lot of noss in mind. the weak link is the block. eventhough its been beefed up i dont think it will handle much more than 850hp...
i plan on running it on just the motor for the first year with maybe a 300 shot of nos the secound.. then i will probably step up to a dart block and turbos
i am taking it slow with the motor as i really dont want to blow it to kingdom come off the get go...
oh ya the primer is nasson 2k high build sanding primer... with there etching epoxy underneath...
PA-IndianRider 09-25-2008, 04:17 AM WoW.... nice picture story..... especially NICE WORK ..... As I have said "over & over" it seems like I am never going to get to the point you're at. What makes things even worse is that I have parts/stuff collected for practically "every part" of our build. I just have to get the "time" (and some more bucks) to get things started.
My back (both upper & lower) and the daily driver ('80 El Camino) I just picked up is causing me lots of "physical" & "wallet" pain.... HA!!!
Hopefully before the weather gets bad I'll have the cab & bed off & begin work on the frame..... pictures to follow.....someday!!!
hotrod 80 09-27-2008, 03:25 AM Lovin the anti-roll and a bump for progress pics . I also went with the Cola crank , but went 3.85 and lentz billets with JE's . I think my crank is set up for 1800 bob weight and pistons and rods ended up like 1755 or something . Yours should have great throttle responce . Once you get it lined out a safe 150 shot wouldn't even hurt that motor . it would take that for decades . Keep us posted .

Thanks for the info. I was going to build a 422 c.i. small block similar to yours but got a good deal on a big block. Good luck with the build.
