Sorry everyone that is offended about a van posting here but this 97 Chevy express van was suppose to go on a trip at 9 hours from the time I'm posting. The problem it is having is no brake lights when the head lights are on, but everything else works. If the head lights are off everything works great. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! the tail lights are bright so I wouldn't expect a ground problem. I don't even know the route the wiring takes to get to the tail lights yet.

Do you have a trailer connector? If so, check all connections to it.

It used to have a trailer connector but it has been removed.

This is a known problem with the connector and bulb harness on express vans. It gets water in the sockets and the grounds rust out. You can get a replacement harness for both sides from a dorman ( Help) retailer. I don't remember the cost but its under $50

DWCSR You nailed it! I installed the new looms and the problem was solved. well almost. on the looms I was able to get today the brake and tail light wires were reversed. once I got those changed around everything worked.
