i'm a 67-72 guy . i know nothing about this fuel injected crap i was driving my 97 astro van last week and it just died just like i turned the key off, no spit sputter or nothing. scaned it, it only showed a tranny code which it has for 20,000 miles and misfire on number 6 that was a plug wire off. it has spark and fuel in the line at bleader. it will fire on starting fluid but seems to not get fuel on it,s own. fuel pump runs and shuts off like it builds presure and can here it run as i,m cranking it. fuel pump was replaced about 24,000 miles ago when i got it. any help would be greatly appricated

there seems to be presure at the intake but i don,t know how much. i just got a book and it seems it takes 52 psi at the injectors i have no way of checking presure

Can you rent a tester from some auto place? I know that some of the stores here have rent a tools. I had rented out a spring compressor when I did the suspension on the front of my Cutlass. Perhaps you could rent a fuel pressure tester?

Has it been cranking a lot before firing up? My '96 was doing that before I replaced the fuel pump. My second pump only lasted about 25-30K miles. That was one that the local stealership replaced. I did the next one myself, and it has lasted over 50K, and still going strong. If you are going to have the newer vehicles, it is worth it to buy a decent fuel pressure tester. I also bought a set of the factory manuals for both my trucks, worth their weight in gold.

no it hasn,t required a lot of cranking to fire, it sat for about a year and a half till i got around to putting a set of break roters on the front that rusted and split while parked over the winter months after i replaced them i drove it about 5000 miles then this , i think it makes a better shed than a truck
