I need to replace my old tranny with a PERFORMANCE tranny.

1988 fleetside, 5.7 rebuilt from bottom up bored ( walls were scratched) stock cam, headers, 2 cats, 40 series mufflers, 4:11 rear, stage II chip, centerforce clutch II. Radial slicks, truck used in street only. no towing, just me.

What are you running for a tranny now? It depends on how hard you abuse the truck as to what you can out under the truck and make it stand up. I am presently running the factory 700R4 with a complete rebuild of the planetary, clutches, valve body, and sun gears. It has a hard hitting shift and has held up to some aggressive driving. I also have a 700R4 mounted behind a 383 stroker motor in my 84 and I believe that they can be built to take abuse. If you are into a thought pattern for heavier duty trannies and still want an overdrive, then look at a 4l80E tranny. It is the electronic equivelent of a TH400.
