can anyone tell me how to wire in a newer model (in my case a '92 305 from an Camaro RS) starter with a 2 post selonoid, my truck is a 69 and I have a new engine harness for a v8 with HEI. also any further input about the other stuff such as the altenator, etc., I installed the '92 model motor with all the accessories and serpentine system, so if someone else has done this and can give me notes about it I will really appreciate it. I'm not a big fan of the 305 motor so please help before I get frustrated and make a boat anchor out of it. FYI, The motor has been changed from F.I. to a carb, the distributor and cam have been changed also, to early model HEI and a standard hydraulic cam. first post, plan to see me more.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi (up near Hattiesburg). I've recently done the serpentine setup. For the solenoid all you need is the + battery cable and the purple wire from the ignition switch.

For info on the internally reg alternator check out our FAQ submissions page and look at the index thread, there is a link to all our threads including the electrical.

thanks krue, ya' know, people on the Gulf Coast often say that we live so far south that we consider anyone (from) anywhere north of I-10 a Yankee. (not that theres anything wrong with being one....) where does the distrubutor get its switchable hot power from?, since the yellow wire is eliminated.

I-20 is the cutoff.:D

I ran a hot wire from the IGN Unfused terminal on my fuse box to the dizzy. The wire from the solenoid was to provide 12v while starting (the power wire from the harness is a resistance wire that only provides 9v during normal running).
