Alot of people here seem to think this ride is one of a kind, all the man hours, & cost
of parts in it alone exceed $35K and there is stuff probably still overlooked, when you
deceide to paint one, is the cost a relative thing? or on this should $ be no object :(

I am hoping to paint her next year, my fear is getting what I pay for, if I go to cheap
& it turns out like sh!t then I just ruined a masterpiece, what would you do, flame on.

find a place in tenn. that has a few magazine covers under their belt, bring it to them in pieces with no glass/emblems/plastic parts/carpet/door sills/etc etc. remember that the RIGHT materials to paint a showcar could cost up to 1300 bucks. depending on the vehicle/location, a showcar paint job will probably run between 6g's and 10g's. who cares what it cost if you have $35grand in parts? paint is the most important thing anyway. go by the local paint stores and ask them who they would get to paint a showcar. you'll probably have 4-5 places to check out from their references.

i paint mine, mine are not show trucks, nice drivers, you should try to do it yourself,if you screw up you can fix it. as nice as the body is, as long as it don`t run, fisheyeor orange peel it will look great with good paint.

I don't think I would start skimping now when you are getting ready to pay for one of the most visuals parts of the truck.

common painter knowledge- single stage black is deeper than bc/cc black. if you dont have to blend or shoot a metallic then single stage is the way to go.

Hmmm, Craig this is something that could get deep before you're done! The guy I have been using quoted 6-8K labor to one of my buds for his 71. My 4 wheel drive cost me right at 10K to put through the shop (different painter). It seems like close to 6.5 or 7K of that was labor. Mine is also single stage and looks fine by itself but when you park it next to a BC/CC truck that has been done right, mine looks like dammit. Mine was done single stage because that's how it was painted when it was new. I didn't think to ask the painter to do it in BC/CC. I have very seriously considered going to take some paint and body classes. Even if I spend 10K on tuition at a good school and top of the line tools I will be able to do my own work from here on out. There is a guy I met at the nats a couple years ago (Tim somethin or other can't remember his last name) who did this. He took some night classes and started doing his own work. His truck was the blue and white Cheyenne parked next to mine in this pic. It's a super clean truck that seems to place at every show he goes to.

If you have to pay someone to paint it you will definitly get what you pay for my friend. Take your time and do your homework! you don't want to be another poor soul telling stories about your long lost blazer in painters prison.

Take it to the shop in pieces and have them paint it that way. Go basecoat/clearcoat. Alot easier to touch up and repair if you happen to scratch. Single stage take too much up keep and is old technology.

Has anyone ever had the inside painted 1st, & done the outside later?
Only reason I ask is the wife brought up this idea, she said if the inside
was painted I could quote "Finish installing the inside stuff" Will you not
have issues on the inside stuff later when they go to paint the exterior?

If you can i would have it all painted about the same time, even if it is in pieces to make sure all the paint is matched well. Also like stated above you get what you pay for bud :)

luv i would go bc cc and i know a bunch of painters and use to own a bodyshop myself but sum things happind (being younger and a girl and drugs she got me hooked on and no i aint with here anymore )and well i dont own it anymore , the resion i would go bc cc is simply cause it last longer and holds up to the eliments better and its more modern technology ,easyer to spot back in if sumthing was to happin
i would not recomend painting the inside frist and then waiting to get the outside painted , get it all painted at the same time and make the painter give you extra paint and clear (not mixed togeather), that way you will have paint that matches the rest of the blazer if sumthing was to happin and keep the paint inside where it warm and safe
there are a few things you can do to help the painter and make things cheaper for you
take out the motor /trans /xfer (remember the underneath has to be painted also ), the grille , what insides you have put in there and any otherthing that can be unbolted or unscreewed ,wireing, dash cluster ,windsheild , you get the ideal there
the blazer will have to come apart to be painted as in the front clip , doors to get a showstopper paint job
it is my openion<sp? to let the painter put the blazer back togeather ,that way if sumthing does get scrached he or she can fix it while its there at their shop
i would use R&M paint ,sure it cost more but worth the extra price and you can get a real deep shine and color with it and its down rite tough stuff
expect to have about 10grand or more in paint and body work alone , and yes i said body work ( if i am remembering corectly theres a place in the floor and the 1/4s that need work and i am sure if i looked longer at it there would be more that would need smoothed out ) just because parts are new does not mean they dont need sum kinda body work
dont expect to get the blazer back in a week , perfect body work and paint takes time and lots of it , part of the resion for the time is primer needs to shrink once it has shrank then you can sand it and get all the inperfections out of it
i got a buddy here that still paints and has done several showcar/trucks/boats and does not like exposure (sum of the best paint jobs i have ever seen are by people just like my buddy), the resion he dont is he says covered up the way it is now and dont want or need the extra work if the word got out that he was still paintin stuff , he has a waiting list as it is already , and speaking of that if you want a showstopper paint job and wanting it done next year start lookin now and get in line cause it may take you a year or longer to wait on the list
another thing where ever you take it dont be there every day looking and askin questions body dudes and painters dont like that and will rush(cut corners and no so good of a job ) the job to get you out of there hair
well i see that i am making this a long ass post so i am done for now lol

Black is one of the hardest colors to make it look right. Any flaws stand out like a sore thumb. The issue with clear over black is if the painter does not get it buffed out perfectly, it will look milky. HOK has a black specially formulated to give a very deep look and I believe it is single stage. They are the king of custom paints for public use.

You will definitely get what you pay for. I paid 6000 9yrs ago to have my 69 rs/ss camaro painted by a guy who paints show cars and funny cars. Nationally known. Anyway rally green with black strips. bb/cc Black looks great. I moved soon after getting it painted and had to buy a house with no garage. It sits under a cover and a tarp. The elements still get to it. There is definitely differences in quality because. It looks as good today as it did 9yrs ago.

your wife was right, cut in all the parts with single stage and put the truck together.

let me step back a minute, you will have to strip the outside of each door fender hood cab and bed then put epoxy or etch primer on them

then cut in the parts door jambs and interior with single stage

put the truck back together and send it to the body shop

they can make the truck straight and use the high dollar booths to lay it down right.
