I`ve been noticing people stop looking at items once they're off the first page or maybe two.Which doesn`t take long since there`s only a handful that fit on a page. But,just realize that nothing gets bumped to the top now. So,items 5 pages or more back came be still for sale or,possibly, you could have first dibs, yet. It takes a little more effort to get through the classifieds, but if you`re looking it may be there.

I dont like the new format myself and wish we could return to the old way, I havent placed a ad since the change. I do appreciate the effort of keeping the board software new and updated however.

 YEH .. I HAVEN'T SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT BUT I DON'T CARE FOR THE NEW FORUM AT ALL. THE OLD ONE SEEMED TO WORK ABOUT 10 Xs BETTER FOR BOTH SELLERS & BUYERS ALIKE. I KEPT TELLING MYSELF "IT'S NEW & YOU'LL GET USED TO IT". I DON'T THINK SO. JOHN :(

If they bumped to the top when responded to... I think it would be a good system.
I DO like the photo showing when you are scrolling through the threads scanning for what you don't really need but you'll buy anyways. The photo will grab your eye quicker than the words.
But, being pushed to the 4th page by the time the day is over sucks, and I find myself not even looking around on there anymore too.

The only thing I don't care for is when you respond it doesn't come to the top (like was said above) It doesn't seem to get as much traffic as before. I like alot of the other features it has though.

I agree with Andy. In the past other than doing my duty as a moderator I hated the classified forum. Now that it has pictures it so much better. I can take a look for something new and read the thread if I see it's something I am interested in.

I agree that a "ttt" feature would be nice, but I like the rest of it.....

First let me say that I LOVE this board and all the effort that's put into it by the mods!

I don't like the new setup since ads don't get bumped, HOWEVER, I think Josh mentioned he was trying to fix that part of it. But I do have to say that I liked the old style better overall-even having tried the new setup for as long as it's been up.

The thing I miss about the classifieds is all the posts they used to recieve. Before it was pay to post there was ALWAYS lots of stuff to look at. I know some people got burned and that's why it changed but man the classifieds sure got dead after that.

For instance,JerryMoss has wheels w/no pictures for sale because he needed help doing pictures.i helped by having him e-mail them to me so that I could post them.Well,I did and now the thread has moved into darkness.I already know what most parts on these trucks looks like and it doesn`t take a picture to get my interest.I guess picture viewers are just zipping past the no picture ads, now.Their loss, but unfortunately, maybe the seller`s loss too.
I didn`t start this thread to bring on open criticism of the classifieds. But,more to suggest people adapt to the new characteristics of the new format. You need to go through the pages to really get a real view of it.Just because the ad is off the first page doesn`t mean it`s old.The old format may have been more user-friendly,but anything you can do with your fingertips I still consider easy.

I like everything about the new classifieds, I didnt' at first but the more I use it the more I like it. I like the watch list, the random adds thing and the most recent add thing. A TTT wouldn't hurt as for other people seeing the adds, but if no one posts on it, it will fall off the pages also. I am never looking for something specific but if you were you could use the search option which I have used and it seemed to work very good for me. I don't think that $25 is too much to pay to be able to sell however much you want and for any price, it could be like ebay and then some people would end up paying way more than $25/year. Sorry for the long post that is just my $.02

;) RIGHT NOW 1 SELLER HAS EVERY ADD ON ALL THREE PAGES TAKEN UP. (NO OFFENSE INTENDED IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER TOWORD THE SELLER) THIS IS BETTER?? ON THE OLD FORUM IT SEEMS LIKE THIS WOULD'VE TAKEN UP ONLY ABOUT 3/4s OF 1 PAGE. MAYBE I'VE NO BUSSINESS PISSEN & MOANIN ABOUT IT BUT I'M LIKING IT LESS & LESS EVERY DAY. JOHN :hm:

We have been talking about these issues with the vollys and mods. I am likely overstepping saying this, but I think a poll is needed by the members as well.

All I have said since the changeover is to give it a chance, some have, some haven't. Some have emailed hatefully, some have discussed it nicely. One thing I will say is it seems like the sellers are the ones saying they dislike it, where are buyers are saying they like it. I have no opinion either way other then from a buyers point of view it is alot easier to navigate, and it is alot less intensive on the database.

The sellers that are upset about the ads falling off the page, have you tried setting an expiration on the ads and relisting them? I am curious if anyone has tried this feature and their views.

NOT BECAUSE OF THIS NEW FORUM, BUT BECAUSE I'VE BEEN SO BUSY & NOW I'M LIVING BACK EAST & HAVE BEEN BUSIER THAN A ONE LEGGED MAN IN A @SS KICKING CONTEST & ALL MY CONECTIONS FOR RUSTFREE DESERT PARTS IS HISTORY. :hm: I EVEN BOUGHT SOME PARTS FOR MY LATEST PROJECT FROM HERE (IF YOU CAN IMAGINE THAT:lol: ) WHAT I'M GETTING AT IS I'M BITCHEN AS A BUYER NOT A SELLER. IT WAS MY FAVORITE FORUM BEING THE PARTS WHORE THAT I'AM:lol:

john that was not directed at you or anyone :) I am curious if anyone has tried it. No matter how it appears at times.. the site is and always has been about the members. IMHO people have given it time, and now its time for feedback and evaluation. I personally am learning the system right along with everyone else and don't know what can and can not change easily. I ask, research etc, as does Josh. Noone wants the masses to be unhappy, but if there is a common issue that everyone hates, maybe we can find a way around it instead of a complete change? I dunno.. just rambling thoughts here :) I would just hate to see it go back and then a mass uproar of members who like the new way. Kinda a catch 22 in ways..

the above is all my opinion as me not as a site rep of any sort

I look to both buy and sell and I must say I don’t look much any more. It’s just not the same. I think it all started with the pay to buy and sell thing. Paying to sell is fine but the pay to buy I don’t care for. Then there’s the issue of TTT. I just don’t seem to get as much replies as I use to. I think change is a good thing but not if it makes things harder to use. Just my 2c

I'm like most here and really appreciate the mods and vols being able to keep this a family friendly site. I realize that there is alot of time and money that takes it to keep this site up. I am a supporting member and alot of other people are. Saying all that I'll get to the point- How many people that come on to the site that are supporting members that do not like the classifieds are going to "re-up" next time it's due if they don't like the classifieds? Really the only difference is that the non-supporting members are not able to sell anything on the site. I just don't want to see the site losing $$$ for not having a classifieds section that is going to bring in buyers and sellers alike.

A tweaking of it is all it needs IMHO. I enjoy the zip code feature especially on larger oversized items. I think the "TTT" would work better for us and the pics in the preview section is great. It has great potential to be even better and hopefully draw more attention to it. Hopefully the Josh, Liz and everyone else behind the scenes can be able to get this better for everyone. :)

I am honestly still testing the classifieds. Ultimately it is y'alls choice if it stays or goes back to the old way. I'd like to have features of both, but I don't have the knowledge or skill in order to modify it the way we'd like. I'm going to look into other systems or addons for VB and see if we can improve on either of the systems we've used until we find one we truly like.

I have set an expiration date of 15 days on one of my ads, and it stayed up until I marked it sold after 3 weeks or so. I like the pics and layout much better, but I wish that the zip code deal would work right, and I agree that the place seems almost dead without ads getting bumped to the top.

Posting a "want to buy" ad requires a subscription. I don't personally agree with that, But I don't make the rules. I agree that there seem to be less ads than they were before.

I've never touched the vBulletin code, but i'm assuming there is a proc or two that is used to return the threads in each forum. couldn't you simply put an order by lastpostdate in that proc?

if bumping the thread to the top with each new post is important (i agree), this might be a quick fix for you.

First off, THANKS for all the hard work and effort put forth by all the mods. We all know this is a great site, and, I bet, everyone here wants to keep it that way. Change, is a never ending thing in life, and this update to this site is a testiment to that. If change can be made, with less hurdles to jump, then it will be more acceptable to most here.

FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW SOFTWARE.

I would like to see the ZIP CODE DISTANCE thing get fixed, as it is a great feature, but NOT when it doesn't work right. MN to TX is more than 90 miles, at least it sure seemed like it last time i made the trip. hee-hee hee

ALSO, I click on the "email updates", when I place an ad, so I will be notified if someone has left a reply to my ad, but it does NOT work all the time, so I have to check my ads each day to see if there are any replys. THAT SUCKS.

I really like the added classified sections, like "wheels and tires" and " wanted " and other sections. That said, if ALL the NEW features worked correctly, I think, that would make the NEW SYSTEM more acceptable to most.

Just my .02 cents, I have faith, you'll get fixed to please most of us here.

I haven't seen that behavior -- you may have cookies disabled (or full)

On the TTT question --

On the right of the screen at the top of the listings there is a drop down select called "Sort Order" .. I set that to "Most Popular" and it does seem to order the adds by most recent comment, like adding a ttt post in the main forums.

I also notice an "Items per Page" drop down control on the left. Currently this only goes to 24. If that could be easily expanded to say 48, 96 or even "All" that might get us most of the way to what people are asking for here.

Liz

hugger that just sucks.. like I said earlier I dont know the software as I never used it before, so I am learning it as well.. but the fact that features seem to be not working right is not good. It could be something as simple as settings, again dunno..

sd I know that :) its like placing an ad in the paper.. most of those don't allow you to place wtb for free either. It sucks that it had to get to a point, but again ya'll know why it happened, and it isn't a rip off price to make pure profits.

Ivel the classifieds are not vB, so it is something new to all of us. It intigrates with vB so member info is used. Its a completely different system by a completely different company.

Lanny the server itself will not send email if there is a heavy load so the site doesnt crash. Its then sent later when the load eases. Are you getting the emails at all, later on, or just none at all?
The zip code thing I agree with. I thought Josh had fixed it tho?

I have to say, IMHO this has been the best convo about the classifieds.. Ya'll need to tell whats going on so we know. The specifics on why its not working is what has been asked for all along. Thanks for going into details so it can be looked into if not removed or revamped. Please keep the feedback coming

Liz... What you say is true. I was just stating what I felt hugger was getting at about paying to purchase parts. My opinion is less important at this point. I've never posted a wtb ad myself.

I'm with lanny on the zip thing, texas is way farther than it says. It doesn't act that way with all locations though. As a matter of fact, the onlt state I remember it happening with is texas.

All opinions count :) I dislike having to restrict WTBs so strictly, but we get complaints from subscribers when non subs use it as a loop hole to buy and sell....

It's weird on the texas thing cause being in texas everything appears fine to me mileage wise so far.... I'll have to see whats up with the zip code database...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Josh, it's more than just a Texas thing. It shows that i'm 110 miles from Winipeg Manitoba, when I am actually about 400 miles from there. It shows that I am 179 miles from somwhere in Kansas and I am 'bout 500. It shows that I am 210 miles from Arkansas, when I am at least 1000 miles from there.
Many that I have checked, just out of curiousity, are correct in their distance calculation, so it's not completely wrong, but on a few, for what ever reason, it's very wrong.
Wish ya good luck on figuring out any problems on the new classifieds, and making them user freindly.

I Luv it myself, you can set the add to run for certain lengths, you can
watch items kinda like Evil Bay, it has e-mail notification just like the old
version, but ........................ Yes it does not take it TTT when one of
us responds, but if you only run it 4 a week you can just relist it, copy &
paste your data before it expires, I think overall it's allot better, let's face
it, allot of peeps, and I have done this, TTT there posts several times if
nobody has responded, but it usually has plenty of Views, that means it
could be the $ is too high, or nobody needs it, run it a week and let it go.

I was going to say something negative about the ttt feature, but it hasn't affected any of my latest ads. I've gotten good responses and stuff has sold. It does seem like less people view ads, but maybe that will change. I really like the fact that you don't have to use a photohost for the ads. I thought that was a real pain before.
I agree with GQ, run it for a limited time and let it go if it hasn't sold.
