View Full Version : Project Forum
IvelDesigns 10-16-2006, 01:57 AM IMO, project threads are some of the best threads to read, followed closely by the FAQ threads.
It would be nice to have a forum dedicated to project threads. This would help keep them all in one, managable place and would help to keep the main year forums a bit cleaner. At the same time, a suggested title format would be good too. like "69 LWB - Trailer Trash Rebuild" getting the year, type and title in there.
would probably take some effort on the admins part to get them all moved as they get bumped.
thoughts?
we did, it was called post your ride, and everyone bitched nonstop so its gone.
IvelDesigns 10-16-2006, 10:51 PM odd
you would think with 59,246 thread just in the 67-72 forum, people would be begging to get the project threads into their own little home.
Oh well. guess I'll continue necro-bumping threads :-p
lol thats what we thought too :) didnt work tho
chevy_fatman 10-16-2006, 11:34 PM I posted my thread "building my '67" now I don't see it anymore...
oh wait I actually have to build one, right? :haha: maybe it was all in my mind ;)
maybe just a distant memory (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=37923) ? ;)
vtblazer 10-17-2006, 09:17 AM we did, it was called post your ride, and everyone bitched nonstop so its gone.
What about under a more definitive heading?
Post your ride is very broad and open to almost anything.
I like the idea of an "under construction" section, it'd be cool to have IMO.
id say take another poll. This will likely sound biotchy and its not meant that way at all. When we had seperate areas ( blogs, picture forums etc ) and explained that they were for project builds etc, they were not used. When posts were moved there, the members got upset and said they wanted their builds in the main message board areas. We have tried several ways of doing this, always with the same result.. people saying they did not want it. Then when the areas are gone, others saying they do want it.
Doesn't matter to me either way. I just get tired of moving 1k posts or so once a year when everyone changes their mind ;)
IvelDesigns 10-17-2006, 02:03 PM I just get tired of moving 1k posts or so once a year when everyone changes their mind ;)
I can understand why
It's kind of funny, a thread with over 32k views on it in the 67-72 forum just had a post from a guy saying he never even saw that thread. That guy has over 2k posts.
a poll would be interesting, but don't do it for me, the newb who hasn't even coughed up his $25 yet. :metal:
BowTieOgre 10-17-2006, 02:24 PM I...a thread with over 32k views on it in the 67-72 forum just had a post from a guy saying he never even saw that thread...
It does seem that some build threads fall of the front page and get shuffled into the back for weeks at a time then get rezzed off an on. I think it would be great to have a forum for builds only. I am just starting mine and LOVE to see what others are doing or have planned and it is a pain trying to sift thru all the misc year specific posts trying to find the builds. I know I started mine a month or so ago and it didnt get very many responses at all...now its waaaaay back in the list. My .02
LUV2XCLR8 10-17-2006, 04:03 PM I like the idea of an "under construction" section
I resemble these remarks :hm: and I agree too
project1971 10-17-2006, 04:39 PM I agree i think it would be cool and easy way to find pics and ideas in various forms of construction.
Pretty soon we will have so many different forums that your favorite forum will run off of page 1 on the index page & then...........
Dont mind me, Im just being sarcastic. I like the forum just the way it is, except for.....
I dunno what ot think on project forums. We've had areas much like it, and whenver we moved posts there the originator of hte psot woudl get upset due ot lack of views... As it is now the posts seem to get more views and posts on the main message areas than they do on specific areas.
LUV2XCLR8 10-17-2006, 07:41 PM More views doesn't concern me, a easy way to find all of the Bad Ass
projects here on the borad in one section would get my vote, my $.02
i know what you think
think mode on
I don't want to search for and move thousands of posts just to get yelled at !
:haha:
450hp69chevy 10-17-2006, 08:47 PM I concure as well, a project forum would be great. It would be nice to go to one forum and see all the different ideas and thoughts these guys put into their trucks. I agree with the poll opinion as well, lets start one and let majority rule on it. Good idea IMO Ivel!
Thing is, we have had a project forum. It was in the description and all. No one wanted to visit it or use it. We moved project threads there and EVERYONE complained about it. We had several heated threads due to it. It was removed because of this and other minor factors. Unless you guys can show me concrete proof that this will work and will not create hard feelings among posters etc. this will not come to fruition. We're trying to streamline the forums adn make it friendlier to navigate, adding more less active forums will just create more confusion and lack of participation.
Joe67 10-17-2006, 10:39 PM I just keep my project thread in my signature for anyone who is interested, even though that thread has plenty of cobwebs on it! :D
chevy_fatman 10-17-2006, 11:49 PM maybe just a distant memory? ;)
Holly crap! where did you find that at? almost 4 years since then and sadly it looks almost the same :( soon, very soon :)
Aarons72s 10-18-2006, 06:10 AM I have a suggestion. I have really only been looking at forums for the past 6 months, the last time before that was inearly 2004 when my buddy had internet. I am not sure if this is possible but there needs to be a way to show one thread in different forums. Say you have a question about a 350 in a 72 chevy truck. To me there needs to be a way to have that thread on both the 67-72 forum and the engine drivetrain forum. And If some one replies in one forum and it goes to the top then it should up date the other one. To me that would be a way to please everyone. Cause right now the only way to do something even close to this is to double post the same question in both forums, which from the rules, you frown upon. Cause to me it would please everyone, the ones that want a build up forum and the ones that want to keep there build up in the regular, years, forum. Like I said I do not know if this is possible or how much programming would be required to do this. But to me it is a suggestion.
Aaron
HuggerCST 10-18-2006, 10:50 AM If I remember correctly, the old project forum was listed as "post your ride" in the pictures section, wasn't it? This is just my opinion, but I think that if it was easier to find, and listed as a project forum, it would get more looks, and be more accepted. Maybe even have a subforum under each year specific message board called "truck builds", or "post your projects", etc.
it was titled post your ride, the discription under it (like on all the forums) said somethin along the lines of
Post Your Ride
This is the section to post your ride, show off your project or keep us up speed on your build.
There was a sticky post somewhere in pictures ( cant recall which one now, but one of the two main ones, if not both) that had links to each area as well.
When the forum was added, it was announced, it was sent in email and it was brought up several times in posts by the staff. N2TRUX tried to promote it as well.

I certainly don't want to stir the pot if the Admins & Mods don't want it, but I would like to see a poll taken. I have no problem with the way it is now, but I think that if it were a subforum with a more definitive title it would help the 67-72 mb.
no stirring imho :hm: people reading this may have the same questions and just not bother to ask. IMHO this is a great thread. I just hate that we have tried and failed at it before..

I'm thinking if you put it right under our new "All 4x4 Tech & Off Roading" section with a suitable title, it'd be noticed and responded too.
FRENCHBLUE72 10-18-2006, 07:52 PM Just my 2.5 cents worth but if it was located just under the general discussion board it seems like it would be noticed? Seems like in the past it was never noticed.. I know I coul dhold a spot on there for projects started and not yet finished... Any ways if you guys decide to give it a shot I will post pics of my under destruction project, just make it all years and not per say 67-72...
70clone 10-19-2006, 01:31 AM how bout a thread named project updates, like on www.pro-touring.com, it gets alot of use there i would love to see it on this website just my .02

I like it.
Thats pretty much what we mean, the name works tho.
OK guys, heres how it is. Josh and I have been discussing this as well and heres where we are at.

With that said.. it means it can happen, if ya'll show us why we should go down this road yet again. Get all your forum buds to reply here and say yep or no.. or it wont happen :)
I would love to see one.. as Ive said before we tried and were shot down.. so before we do this again, get us proof its wanted or needed and we will go for it.
IvelDesigns 10-19-2006, 04:18 PM great discussion here.
Could we get a poll created for this?
67ChevyRedneck 10-19-2006, 04:40 PM I'm part of the "if I'm building a 67-72 I'd like it in the 67-72" main forum crowd. That's just the way I like it. As for my build thread, I think that what I'm posting could help others with ideas of how to do things different and how to build their 67-72. I don't want to have to shuffle through trucks of all different years to see a build thread. Also, when I see a build thread I like I know something has been done when it is bumped back to the top of the 67-72 (or any other forum) so I'll take a look at it. I personally was never very interested in the "post your rides" forum... sorry :( Current systems works 100% AOK for me :)

What if the 67-72 truck message board had it's own sub-forum for 67-72 builds?

But then (to be fair) wouldn't you have to have sub-forums for all of the other years/makes too? I think the purpose of the new site layout was to eliminate some of the "forum clutter." Again, I think the current system is fine :)
IvelDesigns 10-19-2006, 05:35 PM actually, i like that a lot better. It splits them out, yet keeps them in the same place.... if that makes sense :-)
I would say that if the people want a separate thread for projects, that should be what we do. I will ammend the poll to reflect that setup.

Yes, it would require all body styles to have their own sub-forum, and evn though I like the idea, it would add some clutter. I should have ran it by Josh before suggesting it. The subforum idea has been axed.
IvelDesigns 10-19-2006, 06:50 PM ok, re-re-updated the poll :)
lurch115 10-19-2006, 10:04 PM i think it would be a good idea because i like reading through the "help" threads and the build threads take up about half the threads in the current forums
67chevy2wd 10-19-2006, 10:39 PM I like the idea of haveing a build thread but I also like having the build threads in the section they belong too. Is it possible to have a build thread and have the build posts be posted in the correct section and in the build thread with out haveing to move them every time. I like checking out builds I just don't like having to search for them. Hope this all makes sense.
67arch 10-30-2006, 10:46 PM How about a build icon of some sort, just so they are easier to spot. I start to get dizzy after staring for so long, then I have to get another beer to focus!:o
