View Full Version : Should new forum call "User Projects/Builds" be created?
IvelDesigns 10-19-2006, 04:22 PM You can will be able to use this new forum to post your project and build threads. This will help to keep the other forums cleaner and will allow people to quickly find all of the awesome builds that are going on.
Look here for a short discussion on this topic: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=213321
Palf70Step 10-19-2006, 05:52 PM I kind of like them within the appropriate regualr forum.
The forum would be one forum for all build threads, not a sub on each area just for clarification. Sorry if that was misunderstood in the post discussing this. (as per Josh)
Ivel ty for doing the poll :)
67ChevyRedneck 10-19-2006, 06:42 PM I kind of like them within the appropriate regualr forum.
:agree:
Solver 10-19-2006, 11:36 PM while I enjoy seeing progress on any truck and this really is a 47-98 truck board I never go into the other year areas as thats not why I'm here. I like the 67-72 trucks and would prefer not to have to wade through posts on someone redoing a 97 pickup to see what I am here for. Also It would take away from the family (67-72 guys) if they don't always pop into other areas that may not get as much for posts to make it a regular stop and know whats happening in our group
Aarons72s 10-20-2006, 04:39 AM I voted no because since liz said that all years would be in the forum. If It was divided into 47-59, 60-66, 67-72, 73-87, 88-98, and 99-newer, I said no. Plus I would like if it was created in that all were combined that a cross post link be added in the appropriate year forum.
Aaron
guys the forums have been reduced to off the clutter, if we did one for each year you are now adding in an additional 12 or so boards when you get done doin for blazers, burbs, 4x4s etc as well. It was asked why there wasnt a forum for this ( even tho there has been previous) and this is where we are at now.
panhandler62 10-20-2006, 07:11 AM I like the idea because reviewing the build threads is a good way to get new ideas or see how certain challenges have been overcome. When they are in the main topic boards they fall off the front page fairly quickly (with a few exceptions, of course.)

They may fall off the page quickly, but they are still getting viewed. When I update mine it usually stays on the front page for about 1/2 a day  BUT if I keep track of the # of views it will be viewed a couple hundred times AFTER it was on the first page.... the thing with build threads is that once they really get going people quit saying "good job" or "good work" and just look at the pictures and descriptions and they don't get bumped back to the top anywhere near as often.
Once people find a build thread they like, they keep track of it, I know I do....
texascowboy593 10-20-2006, 09:38 AM I say leave them as they are. For future reference All people starting a "build thread" like mine should have the word build thread in the title. That way if your looking for a build thread, enter those words in search and thats what you'll get. Just my .02
N2TRUX 10-20-2006, 10:35 AM As long as it's just one forum I think it's cool to try again. My post on n2billets build got 32k hits and counting.
Like Liz has said repeatedly this has been done before, but it maybe it will work this time. Of course there will be those that won't like it no matter what....:)
Yeah, you can't please everyone in a crowd as big as this one.:D
396C20 10-20-2006, 10:07 PM I voted yes but with a suggestion. If you look at the numbers of posts the vast majority of them are in 67-72. Why not make one build thread forum for the 67-72 crowd and one for all the rest. If you do a search on build threads in the other years you get about 10 for all other years but you get pages of them for 67-72. I think this may keep both viewpoints happy. It would be a way to keep the build threads within the year but make them separate from all the daily disc brake questions. What do you think?
Rokcrln 10-21-2006, 10:47 AM Ok here is my .02:rolleyes: I am one of the complainers when my posts were moved. Mainly because I could not find out how to get to the new little corner they were moved to. Also not as many people visited that page like they did the main section.
That being said I like how it is set up now in the general section but it would also be nice to have a cover page of just builds (not pic's or some day I want to build but real builds) so people like my self that enjoy fabricating can check out different stuff. I would not want a "All year page for this" but what about this idea that mite make everyone happy.
1) You post your build in the main section (for your vehical year) so it is viewed by more people with your taste in body style. That way it would be just like it is right now.
2) But you have one section just for Builds that you would just put a link to your build and this page would have all years in it. It would give both ideas that people are talking about but with only one added page to the site. It would need to be set up so people could not add a post to the link page but just to the main page with the actual build. This way you can go to the "build page" and check out what is going on but when you click the link it sends you to that page and when you post to it, it would be refreshed on the main home page for that year.
I don't know how these sites work and it may take up more space having links for this but I think it would be worth looking into.

If you dont care do you just not vote? Dont get me wrong, I like the build threads A LOT, but it doesnt matter where they are to me...
there ya go corn, new option just for you
1LoC10 10-22-2006, 06:19 PM I think its would be cool... but like said there should be one in each year catagory... if it was all under one, then it just should be a rule that you include the year of your truck in the title
ex: "My 67 short bed build" or "my 90 454SS build" that would keep peoeple from looking at years they have no interest in
Thanks Liz, I feel better now. I hate being left out. :hm:
IvelDesigns 11-09-2006, 04:35 PM Hey liz, any update on this?
71SWBChevy 11-10-2006, 12:47 PM Ok guys just throwing this out there but if this new forum does happen maybe we could require the year and model of the vehicle to be posted in the title, that way people could easily skip over the ones they don't want to read without having to check all of them out. Just a thought, I personally like them the way they are, normally anyone with a build thread has a link in their sig and that is how I get to them. Personally I think this new forum would go the way of the photograph forum, there wouldn't have enough new threads to check more than once of twice a month. That is all just my personally opinion though.
Hey liz, any update on this?
no :D but we have discussed it with the mods a few times  ya'll know I forget stuff to easy.

haha sorry man, I have NO idea how I missed your post! I hadn't seen it suggested yet so I thought I would suggest it but apparently I should check a little better next time!
Bad Drew... how dare you think like others! No cookie for you ;)
There are still only 76 voters total on this poll, not enough to warrent any major change yet. Tell your friends to vote
71SWBChevy 11-14-2006, 10:14 AM :whine: But Liz, I really like cookies, please can I have a cookie please???:whine:
84 400 11-14-2006, 11:57 PM i like the idea but i would like to see a 67 to 72 and then a all of the rest form. Blazers and suberbans could be mixed in with the years as they do share many of the same things. i love seeing these threads and gives me insperation. also as much as the 67 to 72 guys make this form there home as they should!, the other years like mine 73 to 87 have a bigg fallowing on here and i would dare to say the biggest on the net. while iknow this form was created for your 67 to 72's it is the best on the net for 73 to 87 and many other years.
